What is Blistex Cold Sore Cream?

Blistex Cold Sore Cream is an early-stage treatment for cold sores which can be used as soon as any of the early symptoms of cold sores appear. If you feel an itching or tingling on your lips that lets you know that a cold sore is on the way, use Blistex Cold Sore Cream to keep it under control right away.

 

What are cold sores?

Cold sores are small, fluid-filled blisters which can appear anywhere on your face, but commonly appear around the mouth and lips. They’re caused by a virus in the skin and can happen at any time. cold sores are very contagious until they have properly healed, which usually takes up to 10 days.

 

How will this product treat my cold sores?

Blistex Cold Sore Cream uses the active ingredient Docosanol, which is an antiviral agent. This means that it combats the virus which causes cold sores, helping to treat them when they are in their early stages. It penetrates the skin, blocking the virus from entering healthy cells and keeping cold sores at bay.

 

How to use Blistex Cold Sore Cream.

Before using Blistex Cold Sore Cream, make sure to wash your hands. Using a clean fingertip or a cotton bud, apply a thin film of Blistex Cold Sore Cream over your cold sore. Do this 5 times a day, approximately every 3 hours. Avoid touching the end of the tube after you have touched your cold sore, wash your hands again after using this product. Use Blistex Cold Sore Cream until the cold sore has healed, which is usually between 4 – 6 days.

You do not need a prescription for Blistex Cold Sore Cream, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist 4 U pharmacist before we can take your order. When should Blistex Cold Sore Cream not be used?

Blistex Cold Sore Cream is not suitable for use by children under the age of 12. Do not use Blistex Cold Sore Cream if you are allergic to docosanol or any of the other listed ingredients. For external use only, avoid getting close to the eyes. Do not use Blistex Cold Sore Cream if your cold sore has already begun to look like a blister or ulcer. Do not use any other cold sore products at the same time as Blistex Cold Sore Cream. This product is not suitable for those whose immune system’s ability to fight infectious diseases is reduced, e.g. those suffering from leukaemia or AIDs.

 

Does Blistex Cold Sore Cream have any side effects?

Like all medicines, Blistex Cold Sore Cream can have side effects, although not everyone gets them. These side effects include:

  • Headaches
  • Skin disorders in the area of application, e.g. dry skin, skin rashes, facial swelling.
  • Symptoms of an allergic reaction.
