Zantac contains the active ingredient ranitidine, which is used to treat heartburn and acid indigestion. It may also be prescribed by a doctor to treat ulcers and gastritis.
Ranitidine usually starts to work within 30 minutes and provides relief for up to 12 hours. You should take the tablet as soon as you start to experience heartburn symptoms.
With less acid in your stomach, symptoms such as acid reflux and heartburn are reduced, and inflammation can start to heal.

Adults and children over the age of 16 should swallow 1 tablet with a drink of water, as soon as you feel the symptoms.
If your symptoms persist for more than an hour, have another dose. However, be sure to not take more than 2 tablets in 24 hours.
CAUTION: If you realise that you have taken more tablets than directed, contact your doctor or local hospital immediately.
