What is Kolanticon Gel?

Kolanticon Gel is a form of treatment known as an antispasmodic, which helps to relax muscle spasms, an antiflatulent, and an antacid. It works by relieving pain cramps in the stomach to help with the symptoms. It also helps to reduce indigestion by reducing the acidity of stomach acid.

Who is Kolanticon Gel suitable for?

It is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over who are suffering from IBS, indigestion, or other digestive problems. It can help to ease your symptoms, getting to work fast to make your indigestion less uncomfortable.

What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome? (IBS)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS is a condition that affects your digestive system. If you have IBS you may find that your symptoms flare up after eating certain foods or drinks, which is why many people with IBS eat specialised diets. Some of the most common symptoms of IBS include:

  • Stomach cramps
  • Bloating
  • Flatulence (wind)
  • Indigestion
  • Heartburn
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea

How will this product help to ease my IBS symptoms?

Kolanticon Gel contains active ingredients which work in three different ways to combat symptoms of IBS. Aluminium hydroxide is an antacid, which means it neutralises the stomach acid that causes symptoms like heartburn and indigestion. Simethicone is an anti-flatulent which helps to reduce bloating and gas. Finally, Dicycloverine is an antispasmodic, which helps to reduce painful stomach cramps.

Is it suitable for someone who is either pregnant or breastfeeding?

There is no evidence to suggest that there are risks associated with using Kolanticon Gel while pregnant or breastfeeding. However, you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before taking this or any other medication while pregnant or breastfeeding to be sure that the product is safe for you and your baby.

Can I take this product at the same time as my other medication?

Kolanticon Gel can interact with other medications when they are taken together, which can cause unwanted side effects or make the medication work less effectively. Speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before taking this product if you are taking any other medication, especially:

  • Antibiotics, e.g. tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, rifampicin
  • ACE inhibitors
  • Anticoagulants
  • Digoxin
  • Ketoconazole
  • Penicillamine
  • Biphosphonates

How should I use this gel?

Before using Kolanticon Gel, shake the bottle well to mix the ingredients. The recommended dosage is between 2 – 4ml x 5ml spoonfuls every four hours. Do not take more than the recommended daily dose. If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose to make up for it. Instead, just take your medicine when you remember and carry on taking it every 4 hours as you would before.

Why do I need to answer questions to buy this product?

You do not need a prescription for Kolanticon Gel, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist-4-U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product. This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that Kolanticon Gel is the best choice for you.

When should Kolanticon Gel not be used?

Kolanticon Gel is not suitable for use by children under the age of 12. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the listed ingredients. You should also not use this gel if you:

Sometimes when you take painkillers you find that although they make your headache, backache, or whatever your aches and pains you’re trying to treat a bit better, they don’t quite do the job.

This is when you might consider picking up another painkiller to try to kick that pain to the curb. But how do you know if this is safe? Can you take more than one painkiller at once?

If you’ve ever looked into your medicine cabinet and asked yourself one of these questions then you’ve come to the right place.
