What is Dermalo Bath Emollient?
Dermalo Bath Emollient is a form of treatment that works to provide relief for dry skin. This bath additive is an emollient that softens and moisturises the skin. It also protects the skin by restoring the skin’s protective barrier. The active ingredients of this treatment are liquid paraffin and acetylated wool alcohols. These will prevent the skin from drying out.
What is the cause of dry skin?
Dry skin is the result of the skin’s protective barrier becoming damaged which moisture to escape. This makes the skin dry out. There are a number of different factors that can cause dry skin. These can either be external or internal factors. External factors that can cause dry skin include:
- The weather
- Seasons
- Soaps and detergents
- UV Sunlight
- Frequently washing the skin
- Some medicines
The internal factors that cause dry skin, which can include:
- Genetics – A family history of the condition
- Hormonal changes
- Foods and drinks
- Ageing
Not every trigger for dry skin can be controlled, so having the right treatment can help in reducing its effects.
Who is this Dermalo treatment suitable for?
Dermalo can be used by adults and children who are suffering from a dry skin condition. Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the bath additive should not use it. This bath additive should be safe to use when using any other form of medication, though if you are not sure, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.
Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use Dermalo?
This treatment can be used when pregnant or breastfeeding in order to relieve the effects of dry skin.
How should Dermalo Bath Emollient be used?
This bath additive should be used by using 1½-2 capfuls, or ½ to 1 capful for children, of the solution into a normal bath. Bathe in it for 10-20 minutes, ensuring that all of the affected skin is treated with the water and solution. Pat the skin dry after being in the path. Do not rub the skin as this can cause irritation. When using, take care in the bath, as it can become slippery. Besides being a bath additive, Dermalo can also be used as a cleanser when showering as well. To do this, apply enough solution to cover the skin and then rinse it off as you would normally. Again, pat the skin dry after using.
Are there any side effects?
In rare cases, this emollient can cause side effects, which include allergic reactions and also irritated skin. If your skin looks or feels worse, or you notice any side effect, then stop using this treatment and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
