What are Benylin Cold & Flu Day & Night Max Strength Capsules?
Benylin Cold & Flu Day & Night Max Strength Capsules are a form of treatment that works to relieve the symptoms of a cold and the flu. The night capsules contain two ingredients that help to treat the symptoms:
- Paracetamol
- Phenylephrine
Paracetamol is a commonly used painkiller that can also provide relief for a fever. Phenylephrine is a decongestant which reduces the swelling in the nose and helps you to breathe more easily. The day capsules include both paracetamol and phenylephrine as well as another ingredient, caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant that helps to reduce fatigue and give you more energy.
What are the main symptoms of a cold and the flu?
A cold and the flu share a number of different symptoms. Their difference is in the severity of these symptoms. A cold is milder than the flu and is more preventable by using the right treatment before it gets to its worst. The main symptoms of both a cold and the flu are:
- A headache
- A runny nose
- A blocked nose
- Sneezing
- Aches and pains
- A sore throat
- A Fever
Who are these Benylin capsules suitable for?
These capsules are suitable for adults and children aged 16 and over. Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the capsules. These capsules should also not be used by anyone who has or has had any of the following:
- Severe heart disease or a cardiovascular disorder
- High blood pressure
- Overactive thyroid
- A history of stomach ulcers
- Drugs for depression called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
You should also not use if you use paracetamol for any other condition or any other treatment for a cold or the flu.
Can these capsules be used by someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding?
Anyone who is either pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to a doctor for advice before using these capsules.
How should Benylin Cold & Flu Day & Night Max Strength Capsules be used?
For the day capsules, take two capsules every 4-6 hours, up to three times a day. As for the night capsules, take two capsules at night. Do not exceed six-day capsules and two-night capsules in a 24-hour period. Do not use this treatment for more than three days. If problems persist, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.
Are there any side effects?
Like with many medicines, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:
- A skin rash
- Raised blood pressure
- A headache
- Vomiting
- Change in heart rate
- Nausea
- Sleeping difficulties
- Tingling and coolness of the skin
If you notice any of these side effect or any other side effect, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
