What is Benylin Cold & Flu Max Strength Capsules?
Benylin Cold & Flu Max Strength Capsules are a form of treatment that is designed to provide relief for the symptoms of a cold or the flu. The capsules contain three active ingredients that all work to reduce the effects of the symptoms:
- Paracetamol
- Phenylephrine
- Caffeine
Paracetamol is the painkiller that is found in many painkilling treatments and can also be used to reduce a fever. Phenylephrine is a decongestant that works to reduce the blockage in the nose. This is done by thinning the blood vessels that are causing the blockage. Caffeine is a stimulant that helps to relieve tiredness and fatigue.
What cold and flu symptoms do these capsules treat?
There are a number of different symptoms that these capsules can treat. These include:
- A headache
- A Fever
- A sore throat
- Fatigue and drowsiness
- Aches and pains
Anyone who suffers from a cold or the flu will most likely not experience all of the potential side effects.
Who are these capsules suitable for?
These capsules are suitable for adults and children aged 16 and over. Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the capsules should not use them. You should also not use these capsules if you have or have had any of the following:
- High blood pressure
- Severe heart disease
- Overactive thyroid
- Stomach ulcers
- Treatment for depression known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
- Taking other types of antidepressants
If you are using any other form of medication, then do not use these capsules without speaking to a doctor first.
Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these capsules?
Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should not use these capsules without speaking to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.
How should Benylin Cold & Flu Max Strength Capsules be used?
Two capsules should be taken every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not take more than eight capsules in any 24-hour period. Do not use for more than three days at a time. If problems still persist, then get advice from a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.
Are there any side effects?
There is a chance of side effects when using these Benylin Capsules. Potential side effects include:
- A skin rash
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- A headache
- Dizziness
- Insomnia
- Irregular heartbeat
- High blood pressure
- Glaucoma
- Problems passing urine
If you notice any side effect, including ones not listed, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you discover using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
