What is SilDerm Scar Gel?

SilDerm Scar Gel is a treatment gel designed to help to reduce the appearance of scars. This product can be used on both old and new scars, helping to reduce redness and flatten skin over a few months. Ideal for those looking for a simple way to help their scars to heal. SilDerm Scar Gel is available in 6g and 15g tubes.

What are scars?

Scars happen when your skin goes through an injury or wound, forming a raised red area where the wound has healed. Although scars are harmless and are a part of your skin’s healing process, some people may not like how their scars look and may be looking for a way to help their scars to fade.

How will this product help my scars to fade?

SilDerm Scar Gel uses silicone which forms a thin layer on your skin, helping the skin beneath to heal. This helps to reduce redness while smoothing and flattening the skin. If you’re using SilDerm Scar Gel on a newly formed scar, this product can help to reduce itching and pain during the healing process.

How long will this product take to work?

SilDerm Scar Gel will begin to have an effect on the appearance of your scars within just 2 weeks, but for best results you should use this product for at least 90 days and then continue until you are no longer seeing improvement. If your scar is older or larger, you may need to use this product for longer, and should keep applying it every day until you see an improvement.

Can I use this on surgical scars?

This product can be used to reduce the appearance of red and raised scars, including those caused by surgery. If you have had surgery and would like to begin using SilDerm at the start of your healing process, wait until your wound has closed and all stitches have been removed before using this gel for the first time. If you’re not sure whether your wound has healed enough to begin using this product, speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using SilDerm for the first time.

Can I use this product if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using any medication, including SilDerm Gel. Some products may be unsafe for you and your baby, but a medical professional can help you to make the right choices for both of you.

Can I use this product if I am using other medication?

SilDerm should not interact with other medications, including those used on the skin. However, you should always speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using different medications at the same time, as some may interact and cause unwanted effects or make your medication less effective.

How to use SilDerm Scar Gel

For best results, apply a thin layer of SilDerm Scar Gel over the affected area and let dry. Do this every day for at least three months and until you stop seeing improvement in the appearance of your scar.

When should SilDerm Scar Gel not be used?

Do not use SilDerm Scar Gel if you are allergic to silicone or any of the other listed ingredients. For external use only, keep out of contact with eyes and mucous membranes e.g. the inside of the mouth or nose. Do not apply this product to broken, burned, infected, or otherwise irritated skin.

Does this product have side effects?

Like all medication, SilDerm can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. If you experience any pain or irritation while using SilDerm Scar Gel, stop use right away. If irritation continues, speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist immediately. For more information about reporting side effects of medication, please see the MHRA’s Yellow Card Scheme.
