Frequently asked questions about our cetirizine hay fever bundle
What does our cetirizine hay fever bundle include?
In every one of our hay fever bundles, you’ll get enough medication to help keep you covered throughout peak pollen season. Even better, it costs less than if you bought the treatments separately.
To give you the most protection throughout the toughest part of the summer, this bundle contains three different forms of hay fever and allergy relief medicines, including:
- 90 cetirizine tablets
- 2 beclometasone nasal sprays
- 3 sodium cromoglicate eye drops
Each medicine in the bundle is different. Cetirizine is an antihistamine, the nasal sprays are corticosteroids, and the eye drops are mast cell stabilisers. This means that there’s no risk of you taking too much of one active ingredient when using them together.
What can our cetirizine hay fever bundle be used for?
While the main purpose of the bundle is to help relieve hay fever caused by pollen, it can also help with everyday allergies such as dust or pet dander.
By targeting symptoms affecting your nose, eyes and body at the same time, it offers a convenient way to keep common allergy symptoms under control.
How does our cetirizine bundle work?
This bundle combines three treatments that target different allergy symptoms, helping to relieve your nose, eyes, and body.
Cetirizine tablets
- Work by blocking histamine, the substance that causes allergy symptoms like sneezing, itching and rashes.
- Help relieve whole-body symptoms, including skin reactions and runny nose.
- Start to work within around one hour, with full effect usually within a few hours.
Beclometasone nasal spray
- Works by reducing inflammation inside the nose caused by allergens.
- Helps relieve blocked, runny or itchy nose and sneezing.
- Can start to improve symptoms within a few days but may take up to 1–2 weeks for full effect.
Sodium cromoglicate drops
- Works by preventing your eyes from reacting to allergens.
- Helps relieve red, itchy, or watery eyes.
- May take a few days of regular use to start working properly.
How to use our cetirizine hay fever bundle
Although using the bundle is simple, it’s important to recognise that all three medications are used differently, so it’s not as easy as just taking three tablets in the morning.
Below, we’ve outlined how to use each item that comes in your order.
How to use cetirizine tablets
- Take once daily and swallow water.
- Take with or without food.
To read more in-depth directions for use, please refer to the cetirizine product page, or the patient information leaflet.
How to use beclometasone nasal spray
- Shake the bottle before use.
- Spray one or two sprays in each nostril, twice daily.
- For the best effect, use your nasal spray regularly, not just when symptoms start.
You can find full directions for use on the beclometasone nasal spray product page or in the patient information leaflet.
How to use sodium cromoglicate eye drops
- Use one or two drops in each eye, up to four times daily.
- Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye.
- Discard four weeks after opening.
Full instructions are available on the sodium cromoglicate product page or in the patient information leaflet.
Is it safe to take these treatments at the same time?
Yes, it’s safe to take cetirizine, beclometasone and sodium cromoglicate at the same time. In fact, these treatments are commonly used together. They complement each other by providing relief to symptoms in multiple areas, like your nose, eyes, skin and throat.
Not only are they safe to use together but using them as part of your routine can help provide more complete relief during pollen season. This bundle has been put together by our pharmacists so you can more easily manage your allergies over time.
To keep yourself as safe as possible, always make sure to follow the instructions for each product, and speak to a pharmacist if you have any questions.
Potential side effects
These treatments are generally well tolerated, but like all medicines they can sometimes cause side effects. Most are mild and tend to settle as your body adjusts.
- Cetirizine tablets may cause drowsiness, tiredness or dry mouth in some people.
- Beclometasone nasal spray can sometimes cause nose irritation, dryness, or occasional nosebleeds.
- Sodium cromoglicate eye drops may briefly sting or blur your vision straight after use.
Serious side effects are uncommon, but you should stop using the treatment and seek advice if you notice any signs of an allergic reaction, such as swelling, rash, or difficulty breathing.
If any side effects become bothersome, speak to a pharmacist or clinician for advice.
Warnings
Most people can use this bundle safely, but these treatments may not be suitable if:
- you’ve ever had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients across the three medicines
- you’ve had a nasal infection, nasal surgery, or recent nose injury
- you wear soft contact lenses that you cannot remove
- you’ve got severe kidney problems
Storage information
Conveniently, you can store of the medicine in the hay fever bundle at room temperature, in a cool, dry place that’s away from heat or moisture.
All medicine should be kept it in its original packing, with lids and caps kept tightly closed. Keep medicine out of sight and reach of children and do not use past the expiration date.
Alternative hay fever treatments
If the idea of having a hay fever bundle is appealing, but you’re unable to take cetirizine antihistamine tablets, then there’s also the option of our loratadine hay fever bundle. You get the same three-month supply but with the gentler, lower side effect risk antihistamine, loratadine.
If you’re unsure which is best for you, we’ve compared loratadine and cetirizine, including what the difference is, what’s more effective, and what’s cheaper.
Additionally, if you want more immediate relief from your nasal spray, decongestant nasal sprays like Otrivine may be worth considering. If you’re wanting to find out more about different nasal sprays for hay fever, we’ve got you covered there too.
Frequently asked questions about our cetirizine hay fever bundle
Is cetirizine a drowsy antihistamine?
Cetirizine is not a drowsy antihistamine. It’s much less likely to make you feel sleepy than some other antihistamines.
How many cetirizine tablets can you take in 24 hours?
Adults and children under 12 should take one 10mg tablet once a day. Cetirizine is an antihistamine and how much you should take in 24 hours is important, as taking too much can increase risk of side effects.
How long can you use beclometasone nasal spray for?
Usually between 1-3 months. You should always check the leaflet that comes with your beclometasone nasal spray as this will say how long you can use it continuously without speaking to a healthcare professional.
Does beclometasone unblock your nose?
Beclometasone does unblock your nose, though it doesn’t provide instant relief. As it works by reducing swelling in your nasal passage/cavity, the effects can take up to two weeks for the spray to achieve its full effect.
How long can you use sodium cromoglicate eye drops for?
Sodium cromoglicate can be used for up to three months. However, if your symptoms do not improve within two days, or if you need to use these drops for more than three months, you should speak to a doctor or pharmacist.
