What is Orabase Paste?

Orabase Paste is a pain-relieving dental paste which helps to protect any wounds inside your mouth as they heal. It’s also ideal for use on areas of skin surrounding a stoma, which can become irritated or damaged over time. It helps to reduce swelling and itching in the affected area and provides a protective film over the wound as it heals, helping to relieve pain.

What is Orabase Paste for?

Orabase Paste has two different uses, and it works very effectively for both. Firstly, it can be used for those who need relief from mouth ulcers or painful mouth wounds which have been caused by an injury. If you have suffered an injury to your mouth, gums, or the inside of your cheeks, this product can protect the area, allowing it to heal. Orabase Paste can also be used to treat the areas of skin around ostomies, easing irritation, swelling, and itching. This product is suitable for use in those with a colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy, and can be used by those with sensitive skin.

How will this product relieve painful mouth wounds or mouth ulcers?

Orabase Paste is designed to stick to the inside of your mouth or any raw, weeping areas. It reduces itching and swelling in the affected area whilst also working to ease any pain while your wound heals.

How does this paste help to ease irritated stomas?

Orabase Paste sticks to mucous membranes and raw areas, making it ideal for treating irritation around ostomies. It helps to protect the area, preventing further erosion and damage while reducing itching and swelling in the area. The protective layer also gives your skin room to heal, helping to ease irritation in the long term as your skin gets back to its best.

What are mouth ulcers?

Mouth ulcers are small ulcers that appear on the inside of your mouth, lips, or on the tongue. They’re harmless and usually clear up by themselves within a few weeks, but they can be very painful or irritating until they heal. Mouth ulcers can affect eating, drinking and speaking as they cause discomfort, especially if when eating certain foods or drinks.

What are stomas?

A stoma is an opening in your stomach that is used to take the contents of your bowel or intestine out of your body when you have a colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy. You place a bag over the end of your stoma to collect the waste contents that leave your body so they can be disposed of. The area of skin around your stoma can become irritated, especially as it first heals, causing itching and even erosion over time. This is why proper stoma care and protection is important as your skin needs time to heal effectively and get used to having a stoma.

Can I eat or drink after using this product for a mouth ulcer?

If you use this product as a mouth ulcer paste or to protect oral wounds, then you should wait for 30 minutes after application before eating or drinking. This will give the paste time to set, so it can protect you from pain and irritation effectively as you eat or drink.

How to use this product

The way you use Orabase will depend on whether you wish to treat mouth ulcers or oral wounds or the area surrounding a stoma.

For mouth ulcers or wounds

To use Orabase Paste to treat wounds in your mouth, apply a small amount of paste to the area of the mouth you wish to treat. While the paste is still sticky, hold it in place without attempting to rub it in. If you apply too much paste, it will simply peel away, leaving a thin layer beneath. Use this product as often as you need to or as often as your doctor or dentist has recommended.

For stomas

To use this paste to treat ileostomies, colostomies, ileal conduits, fistulas, etc., apply a ring of paste around the area, filling areas of damage or scarring and forming a seal. Then pack cotton wool over the gel and press down towards the flange. Do this before applying stomahesive strips or wafers.

When should this product not be used?

Do not use Orabase Paste if you are allergic to or any of the listed ingredients. If you wish to use this product to ease irritation around a stoma, speak to your stoma nurse before use to be sure that this product is right for you.

Does this product have any side effects?

Like all medications, Orabase Paste can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. If you experience any pain or irritation in the area where you have applied this product, stop use immediately. If irritation continues, speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away. Good replacement for adcortyl. Just the base and no anti inflammatory but covers sore mouth ulcers well. Just hold it on though for few seconds and dont smear as it wont hold properly.
