Buy Nystatin oral suspension
Nystatin is an anti-fungal medicine that is used to treat or prevent infections that are caused by Candida yeast.
The oral suspension is used primarily for mouth and throat infections, but it can also be available as a cream/ointment for skin infections.
Is Nystatin the same as Nystan?
Nystatin has the same the active ingredient as Nystan. The only difference is that Nystan is a branded medication, and nystatin is a generic medication.
As of May 2025, the branded medication Nystan was discontinued, and replaced by this generic version.
How does Nystatin oral suspension work?
Nystatin is an antifungal medicine – not an antibiotic. It treats oral thrush by making holes in the cell membrane of the fungus, which lets the contents leak out, killing the fungus.
You can also take nystatin to prevent an infection; the medicine kills any fungus as it starts to appear.
How long does Nystatin take to work?
Nystatin usually begins to work after about two days, though this can vary depending on what type of infection you have.
Even if you begin to feel better, you should continue to take nystatin as it can take time to kill all of the fungus.
How to use Nystatin for oral thrush
For oral thrush the usual dose is 1ml, four times a day, with at least three hours between doses. However, if your doctor has given you different instructions, follow what they’ve said.
To take nystatin liquid:
- Shake the bottle well.
- Take the lid off, and measure out the right amount (1ml, usually).
- Put the medicine in your mouth, and keep it there for at least 30 seconds, swilling it around like a mouthwash before you swallow.
- Do not eat or drink for 30 minutes after taking it, so that you don’t wash the medicine out of your mouth.
It’s best to take nystatin liquid with or after food. However, do not mix it with food or any drink.
When to avoid Nystatin oral suspension
Nystatin oral solution is not suitable for everyone. You should not take nystatin if you:
- you have had an allergic reaction to nystatin or any other ingredients
- cannot digest certain sugars
If you’re unsure about whether or not you can take nystatin, speak to a pharmacist or a doctor.
