What is Nexium Control For Heartburn And Acid Reflux 20mg Tablets?

Nexium Control Tablets are a treatment for heartburn and acid reflux. The active ingredient in these tablets is esomeprazole, which is known as a proton pump inhibitor. A proton pump inhibitor works by reducing the amount of stomach acid produced.

What causes heartburn?

Heartburn is caused by stomach acid getting into the chest and throat, and causing a burning sensation. The cause of heartburn, also known as acid reflux, can be one of the following:

  • Certain types of food and drink – chocolate, fatty foods, coffee, and alcohol
  • Smoking
  • Being overweight
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Pregnancy
  • A hiatus hernia – where the stomach moves up into the chest

Heartburn can also be caused by certain types of medication and is a common symptom of indigestion.

What are these Nexium Control Tablets suitable for?

These tablets should only be used by adults aged 18 and over. Anyone who is allergic to esomeprazole, or any other ingredient contained in the tablets, should not use them. These tablets should also not be used if you have or have had any of the following:

  • A medication is known as nelfinavir
  • Clopidogrel, a treatment for blood clots
  • Other proton pump inhibitors

If you are using any other medication for another condition, or have any other condition, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using these tablets.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these tablets?

These tablets should not be used by anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding. Instead, seek advice from a medical professional before using any treatment.

How should Nexium Control For Heartburn And Acid Reflux 20mg Tablets be used?

Only use 1 tablet a day, and no more. Swallow the tablet whole and use a glass of water if necessary. Do not crush the tablet, as this will reduce its effectiveness. Use these tablets for a maximum of 14 days. If symptoms still persist after that time, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist for advice.

Are there any side effects?

Because it is a medicine, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • A headache
  • Diarrhoea
