Mounjaro Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve taken too many doses of Wegovy/Mounjaro. What do I do?
If you use more Wegovy or Mounjaro than intended you should talk to your doctor straight away. If the doctor is not available please call NHS 111.
I have not experienced any loss of appetite or many side effects yet from Wegovy or Mounjaro. Should I continue or can I skip a dose?
We would recommend using weight loss treatments for at least 3 full months and sticking to the titration path before making a decision. Weight loss injections work by suppressing your appetite and we encourage you to eat less and reach for healthier options.
Using Wegovy or Mounjaro as part of a calorie controlled diet will help you in your weight loss journey. Adding in regular exercise can further enhance your weight loss. Using this approach should help you to see positive results. If you are not losing weight after 12 weeks of treatment, speak to one of our medical team to discuss other potential options.
My Mounjaro has been delivered but delivery was delayed/it’s been left outside. Is it ruined? Is it still safe to use?
Wegovy can be kept outside of a refrigerator for up to 6 weeks and should be used within these 6 weeks, so in these scenarios as long as the temperature has not exceeded 30 degrees then your Wegovy will still be safe to use. The pen cap should also be kept on to protect the contents from light.
Usually I don't pay for my prescription. I am buying Mounjaro injection. Will I qualify for free injection with my exemption card?
NHS exemptions for free prescription medication only applies to NHS prescriptions. If you are going ahead with a weight loss consultation with Wegovy or any other treatment via the Chemist4U Online Clinic, this is a private prescription and NHS exemptions do not apply. Therefore the treatment must be paid for.
My Wegovy order only includes 1 pen and 4 needles. Should I have 4 pens? Or is it just the one pen with 4 doses in?
Each Wegovy and Mounjaro pen contains 4 doses and so one pen will last for 28 days as it is one dose per week on the same day each week. There are four needles as a clean needle should be used for each dose.
I've been taking Mounjaro since February this year and the 10mg dose ran out this week. As I'm approaching my ideal weight of 85kg, which I think I'll reach in three weeks, what would be the strategy to maintain my weight between 80 and 85kg, and avoid the risk of gaining weight again? Should I continue with the same dosage of Mounjaro 10mg for a while? How would I go about this strategy so that I maintain it?
Advise you to continue with your current effective dose until you reach your target weight. Once you reach your desired weight, or when the effects start to plateau off, we recommend that you choose a maintenance dose for a period of time. This is any dose that helps you maintain your current weight. Most people find that 7.5mg is suitable in maintaining their new weight, but the dose may be higher or lower depending upon your response.
Alternatively, when you wish to come off the treatment, please select a 7.5mg dose for 1 month. This will help reduce rebound hunger. Please ensure that you have adopted lifestyle changes such as improved diet and regular exercise, before stopping the treatment. I've lost 25lb on montaro since Christmas and I'm now on 12.5 mg but I seem to have stayed the same weight for 3 weeks now, my appetite has gone and I only have one meal a day. What can I do ?
Thanks for getting in touch, you could consider increasing your dose to 15mg, the body acclimatises to the effects of this medication the longer you are on treatment. Here are some useful links. A recent study was published demonstrating that on average a 20% body weight loss can be achieved after 72 weeks on the maximum tolerated dose of Mounjaro. This is an average and response will vary between individuals. Staying on treatment helps prevent weight gain.
How to stay motivated during your weight loss journey
I’ve had Gastritis and GP has said to come back to you and see if I can take 1/2 doses and then move back down to 2.5mg as 5mg maybe to much. Could you advise on this. I have been put on 40mg (1 x 20mg morning and night) of Omeprazole a day and 3 x Hyoscine Butylbromide a day along with anti sickness. It has settled my symptoms. My GP asked me to stop taking mounjaro but has since come back and said it could be just a side effect and I was not eating enough balanced diet but maybe half dose and eating smaller meals and using meds above will help. I’m due to take mounjaro today a 5mg it’s the last one in pen. I would need to order a new pen also so looking to see if you can say if I should stay on 5mg or go 2.5mg ?
Yes, reducing the dose back down to 2.5mg may help. Do not restart Mounjaro until your side effects have fully resolved. We cannot offer advice on dialling lower doses on the pen, as this is outside the manufacturers instructions. We are aware that this practice goes on, but please be aware that this is not an accurate method of dosing. Please order a 2.5mg pen next time. Hopefully this will give us more time to adjust to the lower dose before considering moving back up to 5mg.
Last month i bought 2 mounjaro pens (one 10mg and one 5mg) i initially bought both as after a sickness bug i thought i didn't want to take the 10mg (having been on 7.5mg for 2 months). However, after recovering from my bug i used the 10mg so i still have my 5mg. My questions are can i still use my unopened 5mg pen for maintenance now that my 10mg is finished? Also is it safe to go from 10 to 5?
I am glad to hear you are nearly at your goal weight and that the medication is working for you.
I would not recommend decreasing the dose from 10 to 5mg immediately, as you may experience severe and prolonged side effects.
If the 5mg pen is unopened and has been kept in refrigeration since you received it, then I would recommend keeping the 5mg until you have completed a course of 7.5mg in between the doses. Once you have decreased your dose to 5mg or even 2.5mg you are able to use either as your maintenance dose - the maintenance dose is whichever works best for you.
