Manevac Granules are designed to provide you with short-term relief from constipation.
How Manevac Granules work
Manevac Granules contain ispaghula seed and ispaghula husk. Both of these are bulk-forming laxatives.
The granules also contain tinnevelly senna pods which are a stimulant laxative.
The active ingredients in this product work together to help make bowel movements easier.
Directions
Always take Manevac Granules exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you.
Before taking this product, sit in an upright position. Place the granules on the tongue and swallow with plenty of water. Do not crush or chew the granules.
You should drink 5-10 glasses of fluid each day whilst you are taking the granules.
5-10g of this product should be taken once a day. You should take the granules at night but not immediately before you go to bed.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Manevac Granules may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:
- Flatulence
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Stomach pain
- Swollen stomach
- Blockage in the throat or gut
- Difficulty swallowing
- Discoloured urine

Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Warnings
Manevac Granules may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:
- You have had a sudden change in bowel habits that has persisted for more than 2 weeks
- You have blood in your stools and you do not know the cause
- You have difficulty swallowing or other throat problems
- You have a narrowing of the gastrointestinal tract or bowel
- You have paralysis or lack of muscle tone in the bowel wall
- You have appendicitis
- You suffer from any bowel disorders e.g. Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis
- You are severely dehydrated
- You have unexplained stomach pain, nausea or vomiting
- You have heart problems
- You have kidney problems
Talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You are weak, frail or elderly
- You have a blocked bowel
- You have narrowing of the intestines or reduced bowel motility
Using/taking other medicines
If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this product.
Do not take this product alongside medication that can reduce bowel motility e.g. morphine or codeine.
Do not take Manevac Granules 1 hour before or after any other medication.
Tell your healthcare provider if you are taking the following:
- Mineral or vitamin B12 supplements
- Medicine for heart failure or heart rhythm (e.g. cardiac glycosides, antiarrhythmic medicines)
- Blood thinners (e.g. warfarin)
- Carbamazepine for epilepsy
- Lithium for bipolar disorder
- Insulin
- Medication for thyroid disorders
- Water tablets (diuretics)
- Certain steroids for inflammation (e.g. adrenocorticosteroids)
- Liquorice root
Age restrictions
This product is not suitable for children under 12 years old.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Do not take this product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.
Storage information
Store in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
