What are Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint Tablets?

Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint Tablets are a treatment that works to relieve the effects of indigestion. The active ingredients of these tablets are:

  • Sodium alginate
  • Potassium bicarbonate

These ingredients form the medication that is a reflux suppressant. A reflux suppressant is a type of treatment that reduces stomach acid escaping the stomach and causing pain and irritation elsewhere.

 

What is indigestion?

Indigestion is a condition that can affect anyone. It can be caused by eating or drinking certain foods and drinks which cause a reaction. Potential side effects include:

  • Heartburn/acid reflux
  • Feeling full and/or bloated
  • Nausea
  • Belching or passing wind
  • Bringing up food
  • Bitter tasting

The actual cause of indigestion may not always be obvious since it can be caused by smoking, alcohol, or even certain types of medication.

 

Who are these tablets suitable for?

These tablets can be used by adults and children aged 12 and over. Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the tablets should not use them. If you suffer from a pre-existing condition or use medication for another condition, then you should speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

 

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these tablets?

These tablets can be used by anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, though it is recommended that the dosage is kept to a minimum.

 

How should Gaviscon Advance Chewable Mint Tablets be used?

When symptoms of indigestion first appear, take a tablet and chew thoroughly before using. Take 2 tablets if necessary. Also, you can take tablets before bedtime. If symptoms persist after 7 days, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist for advice.

 

Are there any side effects?

Like with many types of medication, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include an allergic reaction, which may lead to skin rashes, or swelling in the face. If you notice a side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
