Eyes can be greatly affected by allergies such as hay fever, and if you suffer from sensitive, itchy, puffy, watery and red eyes, Catacrom eye drops can soothe and treat these symptoms. They’re used for short-term eye allergies and they’re preservative-free meaning those who have particularly sensitive eyes or cannot use products with preservatives, can use these eye drops. Catacrom eye drops are suitable for adults, the elderly and children.

How do Catacrom eye drops work?

Catacrom contains an active ingredient called sodium cromoglicate which belongs to a group of medicines known as anti-allergics. These work by preventing the release of a substance that causes inflammation when the body is exposed to an allergen such as pollen, this substance is known as histamine. The inflammatory response to an allergen is responsible for the irritating eye symptoms you are experiencing.

Directions

Always use this product exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. Before using Catacrom eye drops, ensure your hands are clean. These eye drops are preservative-free which means once they are open they won’t last long, you must use the eye drops as soon as you break the seal, and once you have administered your dose, throw the medicine away even if there is some left. One single unit dose is enough medicine to treat both eyes, and you should administer one or two drops into each eye four times a day.

To administer the drops, slightly tilt your head back and gently pull your lower eyelid down, then you can drop the medicine into your eye from a distance without touching any part of the eye with the dropper. You should then close your eyes for about 30 seconds to let the medicine work its way over your eyes and wipe away any excess drops that fall from your eyes.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Catacrom eye drops may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. Common side effects include:

  • Mild eye irritation including stinging, burning and blurred vision which should only last a few minutes Do not drive or use machinery if your vision is blurred.

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
