What causes hay fever?

Hay fever is an allergic reaction to pollen from grass, trees and weeds. It’s a common allergic condition that affects up to 1 in 5 people at some point in their life and symptoms are usually prominent during early spring and summer. Hay fever symptoms are an allergic reaction to pollen. It occurs when the tiny pollen particles come into contact with the cells that line your mouth, eyes, nose and throat. They cause irritation which trigger uncomfortable symptoms, such as:

  • Itchy eyes/throat

  • Sneezing

  • Blocked/runny nose

  • Headaches

  • Blocked sinuses

  • Shortness of breath

  • Tiredness

  • Post-nasal drip

The severity of these symptoms can vary depending on how high the pollen count is.

Can you prevent hay fever symptoms?

There are many preventative measures you can take to prevent the effects of hay fever symptoms including:

  • Place Vaseline around your nostrils to trap pollen and prevent it from entering your nose

  • Shower and change your clothes as soon as you enter your house to remove pollen

  • Stay indoors where possible

  • Keep windows and doors shut as much as possible

  • Vacuum regularly and dust with a damp cloth

  • Avoid cutting or walking on grass

  • Don’t spend excessive amounts of time outside

  • Don’t keep flowers in the house

  • Avoid smoking, as this can make hay fever symptoms worse

  • Dry clothes inside

How can Becodefence help to relieve symptoms of hay fever?

Becodefence Kids contains a unique Thixotropic formula which becomes a fluid when shaken, for easy dispersion, then settles onto the nasal lining as a gel which blocks allergens and prevents them from entering the body. The effective spray defuses pollen rapidly and supports the fast clearance of allergens to prevent them entering the body and stop symptoms from developing. The unique formula forms a microgel barrier to prevent further irritation from pollen particles and the dispensing tip is smaller than regular Becodefence, so it is perfect for little noses. Becodefence is clinically proven to reduce hay fever symptoms, as it works where the allergic reaction starts.
