What are Setlers Antacid Peppermint Tablets?

Setlers Antacid Tablets are a treatment for the effects of indigestion and heartburn. These tablets contain the active ingredient calcium carbonate, which is an antacid. An antacid is a substance that provides relief by neutralising the stomach acid that is responsible for the symptoms. This is done thanks to the alkaline ions in the antacid that balance out the pH level of the stomach acid.

What causes indigestion?

Indigestion is a common condition that can affect anyone, regardless of age. It is mostly felt as a result of eating and drinking. Indigestion causes a number of symptoms that result in pain and discomfort. These symptoms include:

  • Heartburn
  • Feeling full or bloated
  • Nausea
  • Belching
  • Flatulence
  • Bringing up food or a bitter taste

Stomach ache and back pain are not caused by indigestion. If you are suffering from those, then it is likely that you are experiencing constipation. Other causes of indigestion are smoking, alcohol, and certain medicines. Stomach ulcers and stomach cancer can also be the cause of indigestion.

Who are these Setlers tablets suitable for?

These tablets are suitable to be used by adults and children aged 6 and over. They should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in them. They should also not be used by anyone who:

  • Has kidney or liver problems
  • Have kidney stones
  • Has high calcium levels in the blood or urine
  • Is on a low phosphate diet
  • Is taking cardiac glycosides such as digoxin

If you are using any medication for any other condition, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these tablets?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a medical professional for advice before using these Setlers tablets.

How should Setlers Antacid Peppermint Tablets be used?

These tablets can be sucked or chewed. For children aged 6-12, the recommended dosage is 1 tablet taken up to 4 times a day. The recommended dosage for adults and children aged 12 and over is 1-2 tablets taken up to 16 times a day. If symptoms still persist after using these tablets, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist for advice.

Are there any side effects?

There is a chance of side effects when using these tablets, as there is when using many different types of medication. Potential side effects when using these tablets include:

  • Flatulence
  • Constipation
  • A return of indigestion after other symptoms

If you notice any of these side effects, or any other side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
