What is Salatac Gel?

Salatac Gel is a treatment for warts and verrucas, forming a protective seal over the area as it gets to work softening the area and treating the virus. Use the treatment once a day for a simple solution to warts and verrucas which can also be used on corns and calluses. If you’re looking for an easy way to treat a stubborn wart, Salatac Gel’s waterproof protective coating will both treat and cover the area so you don’t have to worry about it.

What are warts?

Warts are small growths on your skin which are caused by a virus called HPV (human papiloma virus). They often appear on your hands, fingers, or knees, and look and feel rough, sometimes causing itching or pain. Warts are contagious and can be picked up if you come into contact with an infected person or surface. They’ll usually go away on their own eventually, but you can get rid of them more quickly using a wart treatment from your pharmacy.

What are verrucas?

Verrucas are a type of wart which appear on the soles of your feet. They have the exact same cause as warts, but often look different, appearing round, flat, and sometimes having tiny black dots in the centre. Like warts, verrucas will usually go away on their own, but verrucas can cause pain when you walk on them, feeling like stepping on a needle or pin, so most people use treatments to clear their verucca up more quickly. People usually catch verrucas after going to the gym, the pool, or other areas where you walk around barefoot, especially if the floor is wet or damp as this provides the perfect conditions for HPV to thrive.

How will Salatac Gel treat my verruca or wart?

Salatac Gel contains two active ingredients which work together to treat warts and verrucas; salicylic acid and lactic acid. These ingredients soften the hard skin growth that makes up your wart or verruca, making it easier for you to remove it with a pumice stone or emery board. The gel also helps to kill the human papiloma virus that causes warts and verrucas, tackling the problem at the source.

Can I use this product to treat corns or calluses?

Salatac Gel can be used to treat corns or calluses as well as warts and verrucas. You won’t need to change the way you treat the affected area, just be extra careful to avoid applying this gel to normal skin around the corn or callus.

Can I use this product if I’m taking any other medication?

Salatac Gel is not currently known to affect or interact with any other medication. This means you’ll be fine to use it alongside any of your regular medications. However, if you’re at all concerned you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

How to use Salatac Gel

Before using this product, soak the effected area in warm water for 2 - 3 minutes. Dry the area thoroughly with your own towel. Remove the protective cap from the tube of gel and use the nozzle to apply a thin coating (1 - 2 drops) or Salatac Gel to the top of the wart, verruca, corn, or callus. Avoid contact with any normal skin surrounding the area. Let the gel dry to form a small white patch over the treated area. This patch is water proof and will stick in place without needing a plaster. The next evening, pick off the patch and reapply the Salatac Gel, do this once a day. Once a week you should use a pumice stone or emery board to gently rub the wart, verruca, corn or callus you’re treating. The problem area will eventually disappear, or may drop off, you can then end the treatment. If you haven’t seen any improvement after 12 weeks, speak to your doctor or pharmacist, do not give up on the daily treatment until at least 12 weeks has passed.

When should this product not be used?

Do not use Salatac Gel if you’re allergic to salicylic acid, lactic acid, or any of the other listed ingredients. For external use only, avoid contact with your eyes, mouth, face, armpits, breasts, bottom, genital area, or any other sensitive areas. Do not apply to normal skin, take care to only apply the gel to warts or verrucas. If you accidentally get the gel on normal skin, wipe it away immediately with a tissue and wash the area if necessary. Try not to inhale the vapour from the gel, if you do it may make you feel light-headed and you should get plenty of fresh air. Do not apply to birthmarks, moles, warts with hair growing out of them, or any other spots. Do not use this product if you have diabetes or poor blood circulation in your hands or feet. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you’re unsure whether you have a wart, verruca, corn or callus to make sure that this is the right treatment for you.
