What is Salactol Wart Paint?

Salactol Wart Paint is a treatment for warts, verrucas, corns and calluses. The treatment contains salicylic acid and lactic acid to break down the keratin in the affected area of the skin and kill the virus that causes a wart or verruca. Salactol Wart Paint will also soften hard skin, making it easier to remove with a pumice stone or emery board.

How to use Salactol Wart Paint

Salactol wart paint should be applied to the affected area of the skin once a day, usually in the evening. Soak the affected area in warm water for 2 to 3 minutes and dry the area thoroughly (using your own towel so you don’t spread the infection to other people). Gently rub away any loose or hard skin from the surface of the wart, verruca, corn or callus with an emery board or pumice stone. Use the applicator to apply a few drops of the paint to the top of the affected area, allowing each drop to dry for a few minutes before applying the next and avoiding spreading the paint onto any healthy skin. If the treated area is on the sole of your foot, cover it with a plaster to help prevent the infection from spreading.

Repeat these steps every evening until the affected area has healed. Some warts and verrucas can require up to 12 weeks of treatment before they completely disappear, but if the affected area has not disappeared after 12 weeks you should ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice.

How do salicylic acid and lactic acid treat warts & verrucas?

The active ingredients in Salactol Wart Paint are salicylic acid and lactic acid which work by softening the hard skin on the wart, verruca, corn or callus, making it easier to remove with a pumice stone or emery board. Salicylic acid and lactic acid also help to kill the virus (human papillomavirus) that causes warts and verrucas.

What are warts & verrucas?

Warts and verrucas are small growths of skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). warts usually appear on the fingers or back of the hands while verrucas only occur on the soles of the feet. Warts and verrucas aren’t typically anything to worry about, but they can spread easily if left untreated due to the highly infectious nature of HPV.

When should this product not be used?

You should not use Salactol Wart Paint if you are allergic to salicylic acid, lactic acid, or any of the other ingredients. You must not use this product on or anywhere near your face, armpits, breasts, bottom, genital area or any area with broken skin. If you are diabetic or suffer from poor blood circulation to your hands or feet, do not use Salactol Wart Paint.

Do not use Salactol Wart Paint on birthmarks, moles or warts with hairs growing from them. If you are unsure whether the affected area is definitely a wart, do not use this product until a doctor has examined the area.

Very rarely, discomfort or persistent irritation can occur at the treated area - if this happens, stop using the product and tell your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist.
