What is the Ovex Family Pack?

This pack contains 4 Ovex tablets, which makes up 4 whole treatments, perfect for treating the whole family at once, easing symptoms within just a few days. Ovex is also available in a one tablet pack and a 30ml suspension, which provides 6 treatments.
What is threadworm?
Threadworm, or pinworm, is a type of infection that affects your digestive system. It happens when you come into contact with threadworm eggs and swallow them. The eggs will then hatch into tiny, thread-like worms your gut and begin to lay more eggs around your anus. When you have threadworm, some of the most common symptoms you’ll experience include:
- White worms in your poo which look like strings of white thread
- Itching around the anus or vagina, especially at night
- Irritability
- Waking up during the night
- Weight loss
- Wetting the bed
- Irritation around the anus
How will the mebendazole in Ovex treat my threadworm?
Mebendazole is the active ingredient in all Ovex threadworm treatments. It’s a type of medication called an ‘anthelmintic’, which means it treats threadworm by depriving the worms in your system of the sugars they need to survive. Once you’ve taken a dose of mebendazole, you should see an improvement in your symptoms within just a few days, as the worms begin to die out.
Why would I need the Ovex Family Pack?
Threadworm is contagious, and when one person in your family has it, it can spread to the rest of your family quickly. This is why doctors and pharmacists recommend that when one person has threadworm, the whole family gets treated at once, to help to keep the infection from spreading. The Ovex Family Pack contains 4 tablets, making up 4 separate treatments, so with this one product, you can treat the whole family quickly and easily.
Can I use this product if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
You should not take Ovex treatments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you think you have a threadworm infection at this time, speak to your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

I am concerned I may have threadworms, however I am not sure. I have anal itching, but I do think it could be due to a hemorrhoid instead. Should I use Ovex?
I would recommend that as a precaution you take the treatment and see if this clears up your problem.
If it doesn't, you will need to find a treatment for your haemorrhoids.
For this I would recommend Anusol hc suppositories.
Hope this helps and you resolve your problem.
Hi, I treated my family on 28th October with Ovex, then again 2 weeks later on the 14th November due to my daughter having threadworms. My daughter appears to have been reinfected, she's complaining of itching and I'm pretty sure I saw a worm, is it OK for her to take it again after having used it twice in the last 6 weeks - she is 4 years old?
The guidelines are:
- If infection recurs this is usually due to re-infection not failure of anti-helmintic therapy:
- Consider other causes of symptoms and re-treat with mebendazole (ovex) if the diagnosis is certain – ensure all household contacts are treated (unless contraindicated).
- The importance of strict hygiene measures.
- If the person has frequent recurrences consider seeking advice from a paediatrician or consultant in infectious diseases.
