What are Numark Diarrhoea Relief Loperamide Instants?

Numark Diarrhoea Relief Loperamide Instants help to relieve diarrhoea by making the stools more solid and less frequent. These orodispersible tablets contain 2mg of the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride.

What are orodispersible tablets?

Orodispersible tablets are designed to dissolve on your tongue. These are a great alternative to other tablets or capsules as you can take them on the go without the need for water. If you’re someone who has trouble swallowing tablets, these are an ideal choice when you’re in need of diarrhoea relief.

What is diarrhoea?

Diarrhoea can happen when a virus or bacteria damages the lining of the gut and/or the bowel is overwhelmed by excessive fluids that it cannot absorb. This causes stools to become loose and bowel movements become much more frequent. There are a number of possible causes for diarrhoea, some including:

  • A viral infection, such as norovirus

  • A bacterial infection, such as E.coli

  • Food poisoning

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

  • A reaction to medication

  • An inflammatory bowel disorder

  • A food allergy or intolerance

Diarrhoea is common and is likely to affect you at some point in your life. Fortunately, it isn’t usually anything to worry about and it should clear up in a couple of days.

How do Numark Diarrhoea Relief Loperamide Instants work?

These tablets contain 2mg of the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride. Loperamide tablets provide diarrhoea relief by slowing down your overactive bowel, allowing the body to absorb excess fluids more effectively.

What is the recommended dosage for loperamide tablets?

For adults and children over 12, the recommended dosage for these loperamide tablets is two tablets to start treatment, followed by one tablet after each loose bowel movement. Do not take loperamide tablets for diarrhoea attacks that last longer than 48 hours, and do not take more than 6 tablets in a 24 hour period.

If you are an adult with IBS that has been professionally diagnosed by a doctor, you may take loperamide tablets for diarrhoea relief up to 2 weeks. You still must not exceed the stated dose, take for an attack that lasts longer than 48 hours, or take more than 6 tablets in one 24 hour period.

Who are loperamide tablets suitable for?

Most adults and children over 12 seeking diarrhoea relief are safe to take loperamide tablets, as long as you follow the recommended dosage. You must not take this medication if:

  • You are allergic to loperamide or any other ingredient in this medicine

  • You have severe diarrhoea after taking antibiotics

  • You are having a flare up of an inflammatory bowel condition, such as ulcerative colitis

  • You are constipated, or your stomach appears swollen

  • You have acute dysentery, the symptoms of which may include blood in your stools and a high temperature

You should consult a doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking loperamide tablets if:

  • If you have AIDS and your stomach becomes swollen (in this case, stop taking these tablets immediately and talk to your doctor)

  • If you suffer from liver disease

  • If you have diarrhoea that lasts for more than 48 hours

  • If you have severe diarrhoea

  • If you develop a bowel obstruction (in this case, stop taking these tablets and consult your doctor)

  • If you have IBS but have not had this condition previously diagnosed by a doctor

If you are taking any prescribed medicines and need guidance on diarrhoea relief, consult a Chemist4U pharmacist, especially if you are taking any of the following:

  • Ritonavir (used to treat HIV)

  • Quinidine (used to treat abnormal heart rhythms or malaria)

  • Oral desmopressin (used to treat excessive urination)

  • Itraconazole or ketoconazole (used to treat fungal infections)

  • Gemfibrozil (used to treat high cholesterol)

Can children take Numark Diarrhoea Relief Loperamide Instants?

No, children must not take loperamide tablets. If your child is in need of diarrhoea relief, please contact a Chemist4U pharmacist or browse our full range of diarrhoea treatments.

Do not take loperamide tablets if you are breastfeeding, as there is a chance that small amounts of the medicine could get into your milk.

Not needed it yet, bought for going on holiday. Went for dissolve on the tongue considering dirty water on holiday may be the cuase of the diarrhoea tablets would not be ideal. Hopefully won't need it. when it comes to holidays better to have this and not need it than to need it and not have it.
