What is Effercitrate For Cystitis Effervescent Tablets?

Effercitrate Tablets are a treatment for the effects of cystitis, a urinary tract infection that affects the bladder. The tablets contain potassium citrate, which works to make the urine less acidic and less painful to urinate.

What is the cause of cystitis?

Cystitis is a condition that is generally short-term and isn’t serious in most cases. Cystitis is far more likely to affect women than men, with an estimated 4 in 5 women that will experience it at some point. The cause of cystitis is bacteria that has gotten into the bladder through the urethra, a tube that carries the urine out of the body. The reason as to why cystitis is more likely to affect women than men can be attributed to the fact that the gap between the back passage and urethra is shorter, as well as the fact that the urethra itself is shorter. There are other potential causes of cystitis as well, which include:

  • Wiping from back to front after going to the toilet
  • Using a urinary catheter
  • Being pregnant
  • Having sex
  • Being diabetic
  • Having a weakened immune system

Symptoms of cystitis besides acidic urine include needed to urinate more often, a pain low in the stomach, and a general feeling of being unwell.

Who are these tablets suitable for?

These tablets are suitable to be used by adults and children aged 6 and over. The tablets should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients that are contained in the tablets. They should also not be used by anyone who has:

  • High blood potassium levels
  • A low urine output
  • Addison’s disease – a rare condition that affects the adrenal glands
  • Dehydration

If you are using any other medication, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these tablets?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to a medical professional for advice before using these tablets.

How should Effercitrate For Cystitis Effervescent Tablets be used?

The recommended dosage to be taken is 2 tablets taken by dissolving them in a glass of water. Do this up to 3 times a day. If symptoms still persist after using, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist for advice.

Are there any side effects?

There is a chance of side effects, like with many medicines. The reason for a side effect will most likely be as a result of an allergic reaction. Using more than the recommended dosage can also cause side effects. Potential side effects include stomach problems, nausea, and vomiting. If you notice a side effect, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

I have found these tablets very useful in warding off the early signs of a cystitis attack and they could be an alternative for those wary of using cranberry based products.
