What is Daktarin Cream?

Daktarin Cream is an over the counter remedy for fungal infections such as athlete’s foot. It’s perfect for those who are suffering from a fungal infection and are looking for an effective solution that will get to work fast.

What are fungal infections?

Fungal infections happen when the natural yeast or fungus that lives on your body is given the right environment to grow and thrive. This fungus loves warm, moist environments, such as sweaty clothes or sports shoes, and when it grows in these conditions it can cause skin infections, known as fungal infections. You can experience these infections all over the body, but some of the most common areas include:

  • The torso or trunk
  • Hands or feet
  • Scalp or outer ear
  • Groin

How will Daktarin Cream help to treat my fungal infection?

Every gram of Daktarin Cream contains 20mg of the active ingredient miconazole nitrate, which is an antifungal medication. This means that this cream works to treat fungal infections by killing the fungus and bacteria that cause them. It tackles the infection at its source, easing your symptoms fast and helping to keep the infection from coming back.

Why do I need to answer questions to buy this product?

You do not need a prescription for Daktarin Cream, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist 4 U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product. This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that this product is the best choice for you.

Can I use this product if I’m taking other medication?

You should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product if you are taking any other medication, including those obtained without a prescription. Some medicines can interact when used together, causing unwanted effects or making them less effective.

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you are taking blood-thinning medications, also known as anticoagulants, such as warfarin. They may need to check that your anticoagulant is working properly.

Can I use this cream if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

You should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Although you may still be able to use this cream, they will want to be sure that Daktarin is the best and safest choice for you and your baby, and may suggest an alternative product if they think it’s necessary.

Which Daktarin product should I use?

If you have a fungal infection then it can be confusing to choose a product that will help you get back to normal. At the top of this page, we've included a comparison table of every Daktarin product, which shows you which conditions each product can treat. Remember, although this table is a good guideline, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Daktarin products if you're unsure what you're suffering from and what you should use for it.

How to use Daktarin Cream

Gently rub Daktarin Cream into the affected area and the surrounding skin using your fingers. You should wash your hands before and after using this product, this will prevent the spread of infection to other areas of your body or other people. You should use this product as instructed by your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist, or as suggested in the patient information leaflet:

  • For skin infections – Apply cream twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Keep using the cream for 7 days after the infection has completely passed to keep it from coming back.
  • For nail infections – Apply the cream once or twice a day, as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Keep using the cream for 10 days after the infection has passed to keep it from coming back.

What should I do if I get this cream onto my clothes?

Daktarin Cream is non-greasy and will not stain your clothes if it comes into contact with them. However, you should wash and change any clothing that comes into contact with the infected area of skin often, as this will help to prevent the spread of infection.

When should Daktarin Cream not be used?

Do not use Daktarin Cream if you are allergic to miconazole or any of the other listed ingredients. For external use only, do not swallow, avoid contact with eyes. If you do get this cream into your eyes, rinse immediately with clean water, keeping your eyes open as you do.
