What is Liquid Paraffin?

Liquid Paraffin helps to ease constipation in adults and children over 3. It makes your poo easier to pass, ideal for those who find that their poo is larger or harder when they have constipation.

Why do I have constipation?

When you have constipation, you may find that you poo less than 3 times in a week or that your poo is harder, larger, or lumpier than usual and more difficult to push out. Many people suffer from constipation at some point in their lives, as it can affect people of all ages and has many different causes. Some of the most common causes of constipation include:

  • Not eating enough fibre
  • Not drinking enough
  • Not moving or exercising enough
  • Ignoring the urge to go to the toilet
  • A change in your diet or routine
  • Stress, anxiety, depression
  • Side effects of some medication

How will Liquid Paraffin help to ease my constipation?

Liquid Paraffin helps to ease constipation by acting as a lubricant, helping poo to move through your bowel so you can pass it. It also helps to soften hard or lumpy poo, making it easier and more comfortable to pass. This is especially useful in children, who can make constipation worse by trying not to go to the toilet as they find passing hard poo painful or uncomfortable.

Can I use this product during pregnancy?

Liquid paraffin should not be taken during pregnancy or when you’re breastfeeding unless you have been told to do so by your doctor. Constipation is quite common at these times, and your doctor can help you to choose a suitable treatment or encourage some lifestyle changes that could help.

If you’re taking any other medication, including those obtained without a prescription, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product. This also applies if you’re taking vitamin supplements, as fat-soluble vitamins may not be absorbed properly by the body.
