What is Canesten 1% Clotrimazole Dermatological Spray?

Canesten Dermatological Spray is an effective solution to treat fungal infections such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, jock itch and fungal sweat rash. It contains the active ingredient clotrimazole, an antifungal agent that works to tackle the root cause of your infection.

How to use this product

Always use Canesten Dermatological Spray exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. Before use, press the atomiser once or twice. If you’re using this product on your foot, it should be washed and dried thoroughly (especially between the toes) before applying the spray.

Holding the spray about 6 inches away from the affected area, apply the spray two or three times daily. The duration of treatment will depend on the type of infection you have, but this will range between 2-4 weeks. If you have athlete's foot, it may be helpful to use an antifungal dusting powder, too. The symptoms of your fungal infection should improve within a few days, but if your condition doesn’t improve after 2-4 weeks, speak to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice.

How does clotrimazole relieve fungal infections?

Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent that fights the cause of your fungal infection to effectively clear the infection. Clotrimazole kills the fungus, otherwise known as yeast, by piercing holes in the fungus’ cell membrane which causes the contents to leak out. This kills the fungus and ultimately treats your infection.

What is athlete’s foot?

Athlete’s foot, also known as tinea pedis, is a fungal infection that can be easily treated with antifungal creams, powders or sprays. It will typically begin between the toes in the form of an itchy, scaly rash. Athlete’s foot is infectious and is more likely to develop in people with sweaty feet who wear tightly fitted shoes.

Is Canesten Dermatological Spray suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before using this spray.

When should this product not be used?

Canesten Dermatological Spray will be suitable for the majority of people, but not everybody. Do not use this spray if you’re allergic to clotrimazole or any of the other listed ingredients. Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
