What are J.L. Braggs Activated Medicinal Charcoal Tablets?
J.L. Braggs Activated Medicinal Charcoal Tablets are a natural remedy designed to provide symptomatic relief from digestive issues like indigestion, upset stomach, wind and heartburn. These tablets are suitable for vegetarians, 100% natural and preservative-free, each containing 300mg of activated charcoal powder.
What is the recommended dosage?
Always take J.L. Braggs Activated Medicinal Charcoal Tablets exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. Adults and children over the age of 12 should take two to four tablets three times a day after main meals. These tablets can be chewed or swallowed whole with liquid.
How does activated charcoal relieve an upset stomach?
Activated charcoal has been used for many years as a natural treatment for digestive issues like upset stomach and indigestion. It is thought to work by stopping toxins from being absorbed by the stomach - the charcoal will bind to the toxins and be flushed out naturally since your body can’t absorb charcoal.
What is indigestion?
Indigestion, also known as acid reflux, can be characterised by two main symptoms: dyspepsia (pain or discomfort in your upper abdomen) and heartburn (burning pain behind the breastbone). These symptoms are extremely common and can occur together or on their own. Indigestion symptoms are often associated with bloating, feeling sick, wind, an acidic taste in the mouth, or regurgitating fluid or food into the oesophagus.
Are these tablets suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.
When should this product not be used?
J.L Braggs Activated Medicinal Charcoal Tablets may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take these tablets if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if you are under the age of 12 years old. Speak to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking these tablets if you are taking any other medicines or herbal remedies.
Are there any side effects?
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. A common side effect of activated charcoal is dark or black stools, but this isn’t usually anything to worry about.
If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
