What is Anusol cream?
Anusol cream is a treatment for piles or haemorrhoids which can be used to help relieve symptoms of swelling, itching, or irritation. You can use Anusol cream for both internal and external piles, meaning you’re protected whenever you need it most.
What are piles (also known as haemorrhoids)?
Piles, or haemorrhoids, are swellings that occur inside or around your anus which contain enlarged blood vessels. They usually don’t cause any pain but they can be itchy and may cause redness or swelling around your anus. You may also notice bleeding after a bowel movement or a lump which hangs outside of your anus and needs to be pushed back in after you’ve been to the bathroom.
How will Anusol cream treat my piles or haemorrhoids?
Anusol cream contains three active ingredients which work together to treat piles. The first is Zinc oxide, this works as an antiseptic which helps to reduce bacterial growth in the affected area and helps to reduce swelling. Next, we have Balsam Peru, another mild antiseptic which helps to protect your sore areas. Finally, there’s Bismuth oxide, an astringent and antiseptic which protects raw and irritated areas around your anus.
How to use Anusol cream.
You should apply Anusol cream to the affected area at night, first thing in the morning, and after every bowel movement. Apply the cream sparingly and in an even layer. For external piles, wash and dry the affected area before gently applying the cream. For internal piles, wash and dry the affected area and then use the nozzle included and then insert the cream into your back passage. Wash nozzle after every use and wash your hands before and after you use Anusol cream.
When should Anusol cream not be used?
Anusol cream should not be used by those under the age of 18. Do not use Anusol cream if you are allergic to this product or any of the listed ingredients. If you have rectal bleeding, blood in your stool, or are unsure whether any bleeding is caused by piles, speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using Anusol cream.
Like all medicines, Anusol cream can have side effects, although not everyone will get them. These side effects include:
- Burning
- Redness
- Irritation
- Itching
- Pain

Hi I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I have problem the last 4 months when I'm going toilet and is hard i have little clean blood. Can I use this cream?
Do not use in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Patients with rectal bleeding or blood in the stool should talk to their doctor before using this product as these conditions may be the symptom of a more serious underlying disorder.
I've been using anusol for hemorrhoids but its irritating me, feels like its burning and itchy, could you recommend what I should try next to clear them up ?
If you are experiencing unwanted side effects whilst using Anusol, you should discontinue use. You may wish to speak to a GP as over-the-counter preparations contain similar ingredients that may cause the same reactions.
