What is Adcal-D3?

Adcal-D3 is a lemon-flavoured effervescent supplement containing calcium and vitamin D, both of which are essential for healthy bones and teeth. It is ideal for people who do not get enough calcium and vitamin D through their diets alone, or it can be prescribed for certain bone conditions such as osteoporosis.

What is the recommended dosage?

Adcal-D3 is only suitable for adults and children over the age of 12 years old. The recommended dose is 2 tablets per day, ideally one in the morning and one in the evening. Dissolve the tablet in a 200ml glass of water and drink it immediately. Do not chew or swallow the tablets whole.

Why are calcium and vitamin D important?

Calcium and vitamin D are vital nutrients that work together to protect your bones. Vitamin D allows your body to effectively absorb calcium, whilst calcium itself is necessary for building strong and healthy bones. Studies have shown that taking calcium and vitamin D over a long time can prevent hip and other non-vertebral bone fractures in later life.

When should Adcal-D3 not be used?

You must not take Adcal-D3 if you are allergic to calcium carbonate, vitamin D3 or any of the other ingredients in this medicine. Speak to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking Adcal-D3 if:

  • You have high levels of calcium in your blood or urine

  • You have problems with your kidneys

  • You have sarcoidosis

  • You have previously been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars

  • You are taking any other medications or herbal remedies, including those obtained without a prescription

Are there any side effects?

It is unlikely that you will experience any side effects from taking Adcal-D3. If you experience any symptoms of an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, skin rash) seek medical attention immediately. In rare cases, these tablets can cause constipation, wind, feeling sick, stomach ache, diarrhoea, skin rash and too much calcium in your blood or urine. If you experience any side effects, including those that are not listed in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Why do I need to answer questions to buy this product?

You do not need a prescription for Adcal-D3, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist4U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product. This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that Adcal-D3 is the best choice for you.

You need to drink this quite quickly or you end up with a sludgy mess in the bottom of the glass and presumably don't get the full dosage.
