What are Abidec Multivitamin Drops?

Abidec Multivitamin Drops are a daily multivitamin that can give your child 7 essential vitamins that they need as they grow. They can be used by babies younger than one until they’re as old as 12, making this the ideal daily vitamin supplement all the way through your child’s youngest years.

Why would I need to give my baby a multivitamin?

The NHS recommends that all babies aged 6 months until they reach the age of 5 should be given a daily multivitamin that contains vitamins A, C, and D (unless they are having more than 500ml of formula every day). This helps you to be sure that your baby is getting the nutrients they need as they grow.

Which vitamins are in these drops?

Abidec Multivitamin Drops contain 7 essential vitamins that support growing babies and children. Each 0.6ml dose includes:

  • Retinol (Vitamin A) – 1333 IU
  • Vitamin D2 – 400 IU
  • Vitamin B1 – 0.4mg
  • Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) – 0.8mg
  • Vitamin V6 – 0.8mg
  • Nicotinamide (Vitamin B3) – 8mg
  • Vitamin C – 40mg

How will this multivitamin support my little one as they grow?

Abidec Multivitamin Drops contain vitamin D, which helps to support the growth of healthy teeth and bones by controlling the amount of calcium in your little one’s body. They also contain Vitamin A, which helps to support your baby’s immune system, vision, and healthy skin, hair, and nails. The Vitamin C in these drops helps to support your child’s immune system, protecting their cells.

Can I give my baby this multivitamin if they are on other medication?

These multivitamins should not interfere with any other medication, so you can give them to your child if they are taking other medicines. However, you can always speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist for advice if you want to be sure that the two won’t interact. Do not give this product to your child at the same time as other multivitamins, as this could lead to your child getting too much of one vitamin, which may cause side effects.

How to use Abidec Multivitamin Drops

Use the syringe provided to measure out the correct amount of Abidec Multivitamin Drops and carefully apply them to the back of your child’s tongue. Do this once a day.

  • Children under the age of 1 – Give 0.3ml of drops, which is the higher mark on the syringe provided
  • Children aged 1 – 12 – Give 0.6ml of drops, the lower mark on the syringe

Do not give more than the recommended daily dose. Wash and dry the syringe thoroughly after each use.

When should Abidec Multivitamin Drops not be used?

Do not use Abidec Multivitamin Drops if you are allergic to peanut, soya, or any of the other listed ingredients. This product contains arachis oil, which is also known as peanut oil. Food supplements should not be used in place of a balanced diet or healthy lifestyle. This product contains sucrose which can be harmful to teeth, make sure to always follow directions in the patient information leaflet and place drops on the back of the tongue. Speak to your doctor before giving your child this product if you have been told that they have an intolerance to some sugars.

Does this product have side effects?

Like all medicines, Abidec Multivitamins can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. These include allergic reactions which could be caused by peanut oil, such as:

  • Itching
  • Swelling of the tongue, eyes, lips, or hands

If you experience these or any other side effects while using this product, stop use and speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist right away. For more information about reporting the side effects of medication, please see the Government’s Yellow Card Scheme.
