Zomig is a medication used to relieve migraine attacks. It can be used to ease an attack as it begins, or to help manage an ongoing one, but cannot be taken before one occurs as a method of prevention. It is not a painkiller - it reverses the effect of a migraine and eases the symptoms.

How does Zomig work?

Zomig contains an active ingredient call zolmitriptan, which belongs to a family of medicines called serotonin receptor agonists, or triptans. The treatment works by constricting dilated blood vessels in the brain, which eases the migraine. You may only use this medication to resolve migraines once they have been diagnosed as the cause of the pain.

What are the benefits of Zomig?

Zomig can reduce the discomfort caused by a migraine, which can affect your mood and ability to complete day to day tasks. This can lead to irritability and low mood. By easing the pain, you can increase your quality of daily life.

How do I take Zomig?

Your doctor will advise you on the dosage you should be taking, and the following should only be used as a rough guide.

The recommended dose is 2.5mg when your symptoms begin to develop. Do not take Zomig before you begin to get symptoms, and do not take more than 10mg in any 24 hour period. Do not take two doses within two hours.

Is Zomig right for me?

Zomig should be taken by adults wanting to relieve migraines, but there are exceptions which may mean it is not right for you. It is important you inform your doctor of any medication you are taking, including over the counter medication, when you complete the medical questionnaire.

You will not be prescribed Zomig if you are allergic to zolmitriptan or any of the other ingredients listed in the patient information handbook. You may also not be allowed to take it if you have had a heart problems, angina, or have previously had a heart attack, stroke or mini-stroke, have high blood pressure, blood circulation problems or severe kidney problems. You also may not be prescribed Zomig if you are taking other medication to treat migraines or depression.

What are the side effects of Zomig?

Any form of medication can have side effects, although many people don’t experience any. Always read the patient information leaflet and familiarise yourself with the side effects before use. Common side effects of Zomig include headache, stomach pain, dry mouth, muscle pain, feeling weak/tired, dizziness, drowsiness, and pain, pressure, heaviness or tightening in the chest. You can reduce the risk of experiencing side effects by letting your doctor know all other medication you are currently taking.

How do I buy Zomig online?

The only legal way to buy Zomig online is with a prescription from a GMC/EU registered doctor, such as Doctor-4-U. You will complete a medical questionnaire, and if your request is deemed suitable, your prescription will usually be dispatched within 24 hours.
