Xyzal Oral Solution is used to relieve symptoms of allergies such as watery eyes, itchy eyes or nose, a runny nose and sneezing.
How Xyzal Oral Solution works
Xyzal Oral Solution contains the active ingredient levocetirizine dihydrochloride. This is an antihistamine. Histamine is released by the body when you are having an allergic reaction. Levocetirizine affects your response to histamine by blocking some of its receptors.
Directions
Always take Xyzal Oral Solution exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you.
Children over 6 years old and adults
10ml of solution once a day.
Children aged 2-6 years old
2.5ml of solution twice a day.
You can take this medication with or without food.
We can only prescribe this for the use in adults over 18 years old from our clinic.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Xyzal Oral Solution may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:
- Dry mouth
- Headaches
- Tiredness
- Drowsiness
If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Warnings
Xyzal Oral Solution may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if you have a severe impairment of kidney function.
Talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You are likely to be unable to empty your bladder
- You suffer from epilepsy and are at risk of seizures
- You have liver problems
If you are due to have allergy tests, talk to your doctor to find out whether you should stop taking this medication beforehand.
Using/taking other medicines
If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist for advice.
Age restrictions
This product is not suitable for infants under 2 years old. Please note, we are only able to offer this treatment to those aged 18 years and over from our clinic.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.
Alcohol
You should avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medication.
Driving and operating machinery
Xyzal Oral Solution may cause drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you feel safe enough to do so.
Storage information
Store in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
