What is Tixylix Blackcurrant Syrup 3 Months to 5 Years?

This Tixtylix syrup is a form of medicine that helps to treat a child’s dry cough. It works thanks to the active ingredient, glycerol. Glycerol works as a lubricant that helps to soothe an irritated throat and mouth and reduce the effects of a dry cough.

What’s the difference between a dry cough and a chesty cough?

A dry cough, also known as a non-productive cough, is a type of a cough that does not produce mucus, whereas a chesty cough is. A dry cough is caused by allergies, a cold, the flu or heartburn/acid reflux. A dry cough can also be caused by asthma. A mucus cough is more common to a cold or the flu as the infection causes excess mucus to be produced in the throat, nose, and chest which causes a cough. This is because a cough is the body’s way of trying to remove the mucus from the body.

Who is the Tixylix medicine suitable for?

This medicine is suitable to be used by children aged from 3 months of age to 5 years. It should not be used if the child is allergic to any of the ingredients that are contained in the medicine.

Can children over 5 and adults use this medicine?

There is no evidence of any problems when using the medicine when over the age of 5. However, it is not intended to be used by anyone over the age of 5 so it is recommended that a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist is consulted for the advice of what treatment to use.

How should Tixylix Blackcurrant Syrup 3 Months to 5 Years be used?

For children aged 3-12 months, use a 5ml spoonful 3-4 times a day. Allow 3-4 hours between doses. For children aged 1-5 years, increase the dose from 5ml to 10ml. If the child’s condition does not improve after 3 days of use, speak to a doctor.

Are there any side effects?

If used to the recommended dosages, this medicine should not produce any side effects. Overdosing can cause diarrhoea, however. If you do happen to notice a side effect, stop using the medicine and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
