What is Oilatum Plus?
Oilatum Plus is a form of treatment that is designed to treat eczema that is a potential risk of becoming infected. This bath additive works by cleansing the skin and reducing the chance of infection. It works thanks to the active ingredients which are:
- Benzalkonium chloride
- Light liquid paraffin
These all protect the skin and help to restore the moisture that has been lost as a result of the skin condition.
What can cause infected eczema?
Infected eczema is the result of the affected area of skin that has eczema to become infected. This is most common with atopic eczema which is caused by an allergic reaction. The signs that the skin has become infected can include:
- Eczema getting worse
- Fluid coming out of the skin
- A yellow crust appearing on the skin, or little yellow spots appearing in the eczema
- The skin is swollen or sore
- Fever and the general feeling of being unwell
The risk of infection is due to the skin becoming cracked or broken, which increases the possibility of bacteria getting into the skin, causing an infection. The risk can be increased by scratching or incorrectly using a treatment.
