Oilatum Plus Antiseptic Bath – 500ml

What is Oilatum Plus?

Oilatum Plus is a form of treatment that is designed to treat eczema that is a potential risk of becoming infected. This bath additive works by cleansing the skin and reducing the chance of infection. It works thanks to the active ingredients which are:

• Triclosan
• Benzalkonium chloride
• Light liquid paraffin

These all protect the skin and help to restore the moisture that has been lost as a result of the skin condition.

What can cause infected eczema?

Infected eczema is the result of the affected area of skin that has eczema to become infected. This is most common with atopic eczema which is caused by an allergic reaction. The signs that the skin has become infected can include:

• Eczema getting worse
• Fluid coming out of the skin
• A yellow crust appearing on the skin, or little yellow spots appearing in the eczema
• The skin is swollen or sore
• Fever and the general feeling of being unwell

The risk of infection is due to the skin becoming cracked or broken, which increases the possibility of bacteria getting into the skin, causing an infection. The risk can be increased by scratching or incorrectly using a treatment.

Who is this bath additive suitable for?

This bath additive is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 6 months and older. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the solution. If you are using any other form of medication, then it is recommended that you speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this bath additive?

There should not be any problems when using this treatment when pregnant or breastfeeding. Though if you are breastfeeding, then you should ensure that it is washed off completely before doing so.

How should Oilatum Plus be used?

For adults and children aged 2 and over, use 2 capfuls in a 20cm (8 inch) bath, and 1 capful in a 10cm (4 inch) bath. For infants aged between 6 months and 2 years, use just 1ml of solution into a baby bath. Once in the bath, soak for 10-15 minutes before patting the skin dry with a towel. Do not use with any soaps. After finishing in the bath, ensure that the drain pipe is free of any solution. To do this, rinse with warm water. You may also need to clean the bath with a degreasing agent.

Are there any side effects?

There is a potential for side effects, which include peeling, redness, irritation, or burning. If you notice a side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
