What is Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets?
Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets are an over the counter medicine to treat the symptoms of reflux, including heartburn and acid regurgitation in adults.
What is reflux?
Reflux is a back flow of acid from the stomach into the gullet (foodpipe) which can cause it to become inflamed and painful. Sufferers may experience a burning sensation in the chest (heartburn) and/or a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation).
The main causes for reflux are:
- Food and drink including:
- Coffee
- Alcohol
- Chocolate
- Fatty/spicy foods
- Being overweight
- Smoking
- Pregnancy
- Stress/anxiety
- Some medicines such as anti-inflammatory painkillers (e.g. Ibuprofen)
- Hiatus hernia (where part of the stomach moves up into the chest)
How do Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets work?
Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets contain the active ingredient Omeprazole which belong to a group of medicines called ‘Proton Pump Inhibitors’. They work by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces. The Tablets release the Omeprazole in the intestine, where it is absorbed by the body to relieve symptoms. Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets are not intended to bring immediate relief. It may be necessary to take the Tablets for 2-3 consecutive days to fully relieve symptoms.
How to use Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets.
Take one Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets every morning for up to 14 days. Swallow the tablets whole with half a glass of water. Tablets should not be chewed or crushed as they are coated in an enteric coating which ensures the medicine isn’t broken down by stomach acid. As it may take 2-3 days to feel the full effect of the Tablets, do not take more than the recommended dose of 1x 20mg Tablets per day, even if you don’t feel an improvement immediately. Contact your doctor if symptoms persist after 14 days of taking this medication. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. Do NOT take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
Who is Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets suitable for?
Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets are suitable for adults (aged 18+) suffering from the effects of reflux and are not allergic to any of the ingredients (see ingredients tab for full list).
When NOT to use Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets.
Do NOT take this Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets if:
- You are allergic to omeprazole or any of the other ingredients in this medicine (please see ingredients tab)
- If you are allergic to medicines containing other proton pump inhibitors (e.g. pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, esomeprazole).
- If you are taking a medicine containing nelfinavir (used for HIV infection)
- Seek advice if you have a lactose intolerance before using this medication.

Common Side Effects from Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets:
- Headache.
- Upset stomach (including diarrhoea, stomach pain, constipation etc).
- Nausea and/or vomiting.
- Benign polyps in the stomach.
