What is Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets?
Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets are an over the counter medicine to treat the symptoms of reflux, including heartburn and acid regurgitation in adults.
What is reflux?
Reflux is a back flow of acid from the stomach into the gullet (foodpipe) which can cause it to become inflamed and painful. Sufferers may experience a burning sensation in the chest (heartburn) and/or a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation).
The main causes for reflux are:
- Food and drink including:
- Fatty/spicy foods
- Being overweight
- Some medicines such as anti-inflammatory painkillers (e.g. Ibuprofen)
- Hiatus hernia (where part of the stomach moves up into the chest)
How do Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets work?
Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets contain the active ingredient Omeprazole which belong to a group of medicines called ‘Proton Pump Inhibitors’. They work by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces. The Tablets release the Omeprazole in the intestine, where it is absorbed by the body to relieve symptoms. Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets are not intended to bring immediate relief. It may be necessary to take the Tablets for 2-3 consecutive days to fully relieve symptoms.
How to use Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets.
Take one Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets every morning for up to 14 days. Swallow the tablets whole with half a glass of water. Tablets should not be chewed or crushed as they are coated in an enteric coating which ensures the medicine isn’t broken down by stomach acid. As it may take 2-3 days to feel the full effect of the Tablets, do not take more than the recommended dose of 1x 20mg Tablets per day, even if you don’t feel an improvement immediately. Contact your doctor if symptoms persist after 14 days of taking this medication. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. Do NOT take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
Who is Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets suitable for?
Pyrocalm Control Omeprazole 20mg Tablets are suitable for adults (aged 18+) suffering from the effects of reflux and are not allergic to any of the ingredients (see ingredients tab for full list).

Everything you Need to Know About Heartburn and Acid Reflux
Okay, let’s be honest, we’ve all been guilty of overindulging on delicious food at one point or another in our lives.
But what happens when you start to feel that creeping, burning feeling in your chest that tells you that you’re about to suffer with some major heartburn afterwards? And what is heartburn anyway?
Today we’re going to have a good look at what heartburn is and what you can do to keep it away.
My GP has suggested I taper omeprazole I'm taking from 2x20mg daily to 2x10mg daily. It's day 2 of tapering and I can already feel an increase in acid production. Is there anything I can take alongside to minimise acid reflux rebound (which I've had when I stopped taking medication previously) and make tapering easier. I've read about h-2 blockers and dgl licorice and possibly antacids but don't really know which of these if any is a good option. I'm taking gaviscon advance alongside already
- Get ready to stop your PPI. Certain foods and lifestyle habits can make stomach symptoms worse.
- Lower your PPI dose for 2-4 weeks. • If you were taking one PPI pill a day, take one pill.
- Stop your PPI.
- Check-in with your doctor, as the advise provided seems inline with national recommendations
Can you take these when pregnant?
Results from three prospective epidemiological studies (more than 1000 exposed outcomes) indicate no adverse effects of omeprazole on pregnancy or on the health of the foetus/newborn child.
