Permethrin (Lyclear) 5% Cream is a scabies treatment designed to clear an infestation in as little as 8 hours.
In most cases, one treatment is enough to eradicate scabies.
How Permethrin (Lyclear) 5% Cream works
Permethrin (Lyclear) 5% Cream contains the active ingredient permethrin. Permethrin belongs to a group of insecticides called pyrethroids. It works by paralysing and killing any insect it comes into contact with.
Directions
Always use Permethrin (Lyclear) 5% Cream exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you.
The cream must be applied to cool, clear, dry skin. Do not take a hot shower or bath before using the cream.
To apply the product, rub it into your skin until it has been fully absorbed. You must use enough cream to cover the entire surface of the body.
The guidelines for the amount of cream needed
For adults, the elderly (over 65 years old) and children over 12 years old:
One 30g tube should be used. In some cases, an additional tube might be required. Never use more than 2 tubes. Do not apply the product to the head or face.
For children 6-12 years old:
Half a tube (15g) should be used. Do not apply the product to the head or face.
For children 2-5 years old:
A quarter of a tube (7.5g) should be used. Do not apply the product to the head or face.
For children 1-2 years old:
A quarter of a tube (7.5g) should be used. Make sure the neck, ears, face and scalp are covered. Do not apply it near your child’s eyes and mouth.
For children 2-12 months old:
Up to an 8th of a tube (3.75g) should be used. Make sure the neck, ears, face and scalp are covered. Do not apply it near your child’s eyes and mouth.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Permethrin (Lyclear) 5% Cream may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:
- A tickling, prickly or burning sensation on the skin
- Itching that may continue for up to 4 weeks after treatment
- Increased irritation e.g. redness, rashes, itching or swelling of the skin
If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Warnings
Permethrin (Lyclear) 5% Cream may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.
This product is flammable. Keep it away from open flames and other ignition sources.
Keep it away from clothing, bedding and other fabrics as it could make them flammable.
Using/taking other medicines
If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before using this product.
Do not use corticosteroids or steroids to treat skin conditions such as eczema whilst using this treatment.
Age restrictions
Permethrin (Lyclear) 5% cream is not suitable for babies under 2 months old.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
This product should not be used if you are breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before using any new medicine.
Storage information
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
