OraQuick HIV Self-Test is the most technically advanced HIV self-test available. It provides you with an incredibly accurate result within minutes.
The test is easy to do, simple, and pain-free. There are no blood tests, labs, or questions asked.
OraQuick HIV Self-Test can detect antibodies to both HIV-1 and HIV-2. The test kit includes the OraQuick HIV Self-Test Device, a tube containing buffer solution, a test strand, instructions and a disposal bag.
Directions
Do not eat or drink for 15 minutes before performing the test.
Do not use oral cleaning products such as toothpaste or mouthwash for at least 30 minutes before performing your test.
To start, gently swab the pad along your upper and lower gums once using the flat pad. Then, put the test directly into the test tube, where indicated, in the upper portion of the test kit. The test window will turn pink within a few minutes.
Wait at least 20 minutes before reading your results. You must read them within 40 minutes.
When should I use this test?
You can use this test from 4 weeks after your most recent exposure. However, you should only rely on a negative result 12 weeks after your most recent exposure.
By 4 weeks, you could have made detectable antibodies; by week 6, 95% of people will have made them. However, some people only produce antibodies later. By week 12, 99% of people will have made antibodies.
If you test within the first 12 weeks and get a negative result, you should redo the test after 12 weeks. A positive result is always positive, regardless of the time period.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before using any new product.
Storage information
Store in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging.

Tests for HIV using oral fluids are safe and accurate and provide you with fast results. They are an excellent choice for anyone who doesn’t want to have their blood taken. The tests are private and also convenient as they can be done in the comfort of your own home.
How soon should I get tested if I think I have been exposed to HIV?
If you think you have been exposed to HIV, you should wait at least 3 months before testing. Most people will develop antibodies to HIV within 3 months. If you take a test sooner than 3 months and get a negative result, you should re-test at least 3 months after the possible exposure. 97% of people develop antibodies in the first 3 months; however, this can take up to 6 months in rarer cases.
What could cause false positives on a HIV test?
A false positive is when you test positive for HIV, but you don’t have it. False positive tests can happen if you read the test wrong as positive or if you don’t follow the instructions properly. You might get a false positive if you don’t wait 15 minutes after eating or drinking or 30 minutes after using oral care products. Also, if you have participated in a HIV vaccine clinical trial or you have swiped each gum several times, this might lead to a false positive.
Can I still use the OraQuick HIV Self-Test with braces or dentures?
If you wear braces or a retainer, it is safe to use the OraQuick HIV Self-Test. However, with dentures, if they cover your gums, you must remove them and wash any paste remaining on your gums. You must then wait 30 minutes before doing the test.
What should I do if I (or my child, friend or partner) accidentally drank the testing fluid from the test tube?
If you or someone else has drunk the testing fluid from the test tube, there is no cause for concern. The ingredients in the test tube are not toxic, and no known health risks are associated with the amount of fluid provided. If you’re concerned about the liquid having been swallowed, please contact your healthcare provider for advice. If you cannot complete the test, you must get a new one.
Inside the package, there is a small pouch of absorbent material containing the test stick. Should I use it?
You do not need to do anything with the small pouch inside your test stick. It is designed to prevent moisture from affecting the test stick whilst it is stored. You can discard the small pouch of absorbent material with regular household waste.
I mistakenly/accidentally removed the test stick (or it fell out) from the vital early (before 20 minutes). Will my results be valid?
If the test stick is removed at any point after it is placed in the test tube, the test will be invalid. It won't be valid even if you immediately put it back in the test tube. If the test stick doesn’t remain in the tube for 20 minutes, your result should be considered invalid, and you must repeat the test.
I left the test stick in the vital for longer than 40 minutes. Will the results be accurate?
If you leave the test stick in the vital for more than 40 minutes, your results will be invalid. Do not use the results as an indication of your HIV status. You must repeat the testing process.
