What is Oilatum Emollient?

Oilatum Emollient is a solution that when added to bath water, forms an emollient film on the skin which helps to reduce itching and dryness in the skin.

How does it work?

This emollient works by hydrating the skin surface that has been dried out or irritated thanks to conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. This emollient, in particular, is effective on large areas of the body that have been affected. The active ingredient, light liquid paraffin, helps the skin to restore the natural moisture that has been lost.

Who is this emollient suitable for?

It is suitable to be used by adults and children. It is not suitable to be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients. These are:

  • Light Liquid Paraffin
  • Acetylated Lanolin Alcohols
  • Isopropyl Palmitate
  • Polyethylene Glycol 400 Dilaurate
  • Polyoxyethylene 40 Sorbital Septaoleate
  • Floral Spice

Is this bath emollient suitable to be used by someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended that you speak to your doctor before using this emollient.

Can this Oilatum Emollient be used by someone who is taking any medication?

If you are taking any medication and want to use this emollient, consult a doctor before doing so. This is because there are ingredients in the emollient that could potentially interfere with the medication. At the same time, there could also be a benefit. Using Oilatum Bath Emollient will make your skin absorb more liquids. As a result, if you are using a cream for eczema, for example, then the skin could absorb more of it, improving its effectiveness. This, however, is not guaranteed.

How should I be using this bath emollient?

For adults, add 1-3 capfuls of the emollient into a regular bath and bathe in it for up to 20 minutes. Afterwards, gently pat the skin dry using a towel. For children, reduce the amount of emollient to ½-2 capfuls and use a smaller amount of bath water. Apply the water gently to the skin and then pat it dry as soft as possible.

Are there any side effects?

Any side effect is likely as a result of an allergic reaction. If you do notice any side effect, then contact your doctor as soon as possible.
