What are Nurofen Cold & Flu Relief 200mg/5mg Tablets?

Nurofen Cold & Flu Relief Tablets are a form of treatment that works to relieve the effects of a cold or flu. The common effects of a cold or flu, such as a sore throat, a headache, nasal congestion, aches and pains, as well as a fever, are all treated using these tablets. The active ingredients are ibuprofen and phenylephrine. Ibuprofen is a painkiller that belongs to a group of drugs called NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. Phenylephrine is a decongestant helps to reduce swelling in the nose and can help reduce headaches.

 

What causes a cold or flu?

Both a cold and the flu are a virus. A cold is commonly formed by a virus that enters the body through the nose, mouth, or even the eyes. The flu is caused by the influenza virus, but unlike a cold where there are over 100 types, there are only three flu types; A, B, and C. Types A and B are responsible for the seasonal flu that is common and type C is the cause of less severe symptoms. Both a cold and flu are contagious and can spread if not treated correctly.

 

Who are these Nurofen Tablets suitable for?

These tablets are suitable for people aged 12 and over. They should not be used if you are allergic to any of the ingredients contained in the tablets. You should also not use the tablets if you have had any of the following:

  • Have ever had a stomach ulcer, perforation, or bleeding
  • Are taking any other NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) painkillers
  • Have ever had gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation while taking NSAIDs
  • Are taking more than 75mg of aspirin a day
  • Have severe liver or kidney problems
  • Have heart problems, high blood pressure, or blood coagulation disorder
  • Have breathing difficulties
  • Have an overactive thyroid
  • Are taking depression medication called Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOIs)
  • Are in the last 3 months of pregnancy
 

How should Nurofen Cold & Flu Relief 200mg/5mg Tablets be used?

The recommended dosage is two tablets every eight hours, and no more than six every 24 hours. To take them, use a glass of water and swallow them whole. Do not try and chew them.

 

Are there any side effects?

Because these tablets are a medicine, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • Bleeding in the intestines
  • An allergic reaction, such as swelling in the face, mouth, tongue, lips, or tongue
  • Severe kidney problems
  • Aseptic meningitis
  • Liver problems
  • Indigestion
  • Heartburn
  • Feeling sick/nausea
  • Stomach pains
