Migard Tablets are a migraine treatment for adults. These tablets can effectively treat the headache phase of a migraine attack with or without aura (a temporary strange feeling before a migraine, which varies from person to person but can affect vision, smell and hearing). Migard Tablets should not be used to prevent a migraine attack.
How Migard 2.5mg Tablets work
Migard Tablets contain the active ingredient frovatriptan, which belongs to a group of medicines known as triptans. Triptan medicines are a specific type of painkiller for migraine attacks, and they’re believed to work by reversing the changes in the brain caused by a migraine. Triptans cause the blood vessels around the brain to narrow, reversing the widening of the blood vessels caused by the onset of a migraine.
Directions
Always take Migard Tablets exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. You should take Migard Tablets as early as possible after the onset of the migraine headache. Swallow 1 tablet whole with water. If the first dose does not give you any relief, do not take a second dose during the same attack. You can use Migard Tablets for any following attacks.
If you obtain relief after the first dose, but later suffer from the reappearance of a headache within 24 hours, you can take a second dose provided that at least 2 hours have passed between the 2 doses. Do not exceed the maximum dose of 5 mg (2 tablets) in 24 hours.
You should not take Migard Tablets excessively (repeated use over several consecutive days) as it may cause an increase in side effects and lead to chronic daily headaches. Always consult your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist if you start having too frequent or daily headaches as you may be suffering from a medication overuse headache.
What is a migraine?
A migraine is when you have a severe throbbing pain on one side of the head, but some people may find that the pain affects the area behind the eyes, the back of the head and the neck, too. Symptoms like nausea, vomiting and an increased sensitivity to light or sound are typically signs that your headache is a migraine.
Migraines are a relatively common health condition in the UK and they usually begin in early adulthood. They affect around 1 in 5 women and around 1 in every 15 men.

Like all medicines, Migard Tablets may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:

For more information on potential side effects, refer to the patient information leaflet. If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Stop taking Migard Tablets and tell your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist right away if you experience a feeling of tightness or pain in the chest, shortness of breath and/or pain or discomfort in one or both arms, your back, shoulders, neck, jaw, or upper part of the stomach. These might be symptoms of a heart attack, which can occur when taking triptans, even in patients with no history of cardio-vascular disease.
