Levonorgestrel 1500mcg Emergency Contraceptive Pill “Morning After” - 2 Tablets is an emergency oral contraceptive pill. 

The pill is taken to prevent you from getting pregnant. 

You should only use Levonorgestrel in case of emergencies or when your usual method of contraception has not worked. It should not be used in place of your regular contraception.

Levonorgestrel 1500mcg Emergency Contraceptive Pill “Morning After” - 2 Tablets contain the active ingredient levonorgestrel. Levonorgestrel is a synthetic version of the hormone progesterone which is produced by the ovaries. 

Levonorgestrel works by stopping or delaying ovulation. It can also stop sperm from fertilising an egg if it has already been released. 

 

Directions

Always take this product exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. 

Take the tablet as soon as possible after unprotected sex. Take the tablet preferably within 12 hours and no later than 72 hours.

The tablet works better the sooner you take it after unprotected sex.

 

Side effects

Levonorgestrel 1500mcg Emergency Contraceptive Pill “Morning After” - 2 Tablets may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include: 

 

  • Headaches 
  • Nausea 
  • Lower abdominal pain
  • Tiredness
  • Irregular bleeding

 

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

 

Serious side effects

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. 

 

Warnings

Levonorgestrel 1500mcg Emergency Contraceptive Pill “Morning After” - 2 Tablets may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take this tablet if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:

 

  • You have a history of infection or inflammation of the fallopian tubes or ectopic pregnancy
  • You have severe liver problems
  • You have disease of the small bowel e.g. Crohn's disease 
  • You have ever had a disease called salpingitis 



Using/taking other medicines

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription. 

If you have used any of the following medications in the last 4 weeks they can cause the tablet to be less effective:

 

  • Barbiturates and other epilepsy medications 
  • Medicines used to treat tuberculosis
  • Medicines used in for HIV
  • Medicines used to treat fungal infections 
  • Herbal remedies containing St John’s wort 

 

Age restrictions 

Levonorgestrel 1500mcg Emergency Contraceptive Pill “Morning After” - 2 Tablets is not suitable for under 16s.

You can only purchase this product from Chemist4U if you are over 18.

 

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new product.  This product will not work if you are already pregnant.  Levonorgestrel can be secreted in your breast milk. You should take the tablet immediately after breastfeeding and avoid breastfeeding for at least 8 hours following taking the tablet.

 

Storage information

Store in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging.
