Buy Imigran Nasal Spray

Imigran Nasal Spray is a treatment for migraines containing the active ingredient sumatriptan, a type of medicine called a 5-HT receptor agonist. Sumatriptan is not a painkiller, but it can relieve the symptoms of migraines such as headache, nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound. Imigran is recommended for those aged 12-65, however we can only supply to over 18s from our clinic.

How Imigran Nasal Spray works

Sumatriptan is a type of medicine called a 5-HT receptor agonist. It works by releasing serotonin, a chemical in the brain, which causes the blood vessels around your brain to narrow, relieving symptoms of headaches that are thought to be caused by the widening of these blood vessels. Sumatriptan can also reduce related symptoms such as sensitivity to light or nausea.

Directions

Always use Imigran Nasal Spray exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. Each spray is sealed in a blister to keep it clean and safe. Don’t open a blister until you are ready to use a spray. If you carry a spray without a blister, or in an open blister, it may not work properly when you need it. Each spray contains just one dose of Imigran Nasal Spray.

Don’t press the plunger too soon or you will lose the dose. Start by removing the nasal spray from the blister packaging just before you want to use it. Get into a comfortable position - you may prefer to sit down. Blow your nose if it feels blocked, or if you have a cold.

Hold the nasal spray gently with your fingers and thumb; don’t press the blue plunger yet. Block one nostril by pressing a finger firmly on the side of your nose. It doesn’t matter which nostril you choose. Put the nozzle of the nasal spray into the other nostril, as far as feels comfortable - about 1 cm or 1/2 inch.

Breathe out gently through your mouth. Hold your head upright and close your mouth. Start to breathe in gently through your nose, and, as you breathe in, press the blue plunger firmly with your thumb. The plunger may feel a bit stiff and you may hear it click. Keep breathing in while spraying.

Remove the spray and remove your finger from the side of your nose. Keep your head upright for 10-20 seconds, breathing gently in through your nose and out through your mouth. This helps the medicine stay in your nose. Your nose may feel wet inside and you may notice a slight taste after using the spray - this is normal and will soon pass. Your nasal spray is now empty. Throw it away safely and hygienically.

You should not take Imigran Nasal Spray excessively (repeated use over several consecutive days) as it may cause an increase in side effects and lead to chronic daily headaches. Always consult your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist if you start having too frequent or daily headaches as you may be suffering from a medication overuse headache.

Dosage

The dosage for adults aged 18 to 65 is one Imigran 20 mg spray into just one nostril. But one Imigran 10 mg spray into one nostril is enough for some people. Don’t use more than two sprays in 24 hours.

What is a migraine?

A migraine is when you have a severe throbbing pain on one side of the head, but some people may find that the pain affects the area behind the eyes, the back of the head and the neck, too. Symptoms like nausea, vomiting and an increased sensitivity to light or sound are typically signs that your headache is a migraine.

Migraines are a relatively common health condition in the UK and they usually begin in early adulthood. They affect around 1 in 5 women and around 1 in every 15 men.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Imigran Nasal Spray may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:

  • Unpleasant taste
  • Heaviness, pressure, tightness or pain in the chest, throat or other parts of the body, or feelings of unusual sensations, including numbness, tingling and warmth or cold. These effects may be intense but generally pass quickly
  • Irritation or burning sensation in the nose or throat; nose bleeds
  • Nausea and vomiting, but this may also be caused by the migraine itself
  • Tiredness or drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Feeling weak
  • Getting hot flushes
  • Temporary increase in blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath
  • Aching muscles

For more information on potential side effects, refer to the patient information leaflet. If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Serious side effects

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.

Stop using Imigran Nasal Spray and tell your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist right away if you experience a feeling of tightness or pain in the chest, shortness of breath and/or pain or discomfort in one or both arms, your back, shoulders, neck, jaw, or upper part of the stomach. These might be symptoms of a heart attack, which can occur when taking triptans, even in patients with no history of cardio-vascular disease.
