Weight loss prescription changes - what does this mean for you?

You may have seen the news about updated regulations for online weight loss treatments like Wegovy (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) injections.
Changes like these can raise questions and even worry, so we want to reassure you that your prescription remains unaffected. Your treatment will continue as normal without any extra steps or delays.
What’s changed with weight loss prescribing?
In line with new online pharmacy regulations issued by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), many pharmacies must now verify additional health information before prescribing weight loss medication.
Prescribers can no longer make decisions solely based on the information provided in an online questionnaire. Height, weight and body mass index (BMI) must be verified as part of the new prescribing process.
The guidelines recommend using a video consultation, in-person verification, checking clinical records, or contacting a healthcare provider, such as the person's GP, to confirm these details.
These updates help to ensure that individuals can no longer provide false information to obtain medications that may not be appropriate for them.
Here at Chemist4U, as always, we are committed to meeting these strict standards to ensure your treatment is safe and appropriate. Every consultation undergoes a thorough review by one of our highly trained clinicians who specialise in weight management, to ensure it’s appropriate for you, and we also keep your GP informed of your treatment plan.
We fully support the GPhC reinforcing these industry safety standards to ensure access to weight loss medication is safe for all. For more information on these changes, please click here.
Why is this change important?
This new change is important because it ensures any prescriptions issued are based upon accurate, verified information through a consultation, not just what’s provided in an online questionnaire. It helps prevent people from giving false details to get medications that may not be safe or suitable for them.
What does this mean for you?
Rest assured, there’s nothing extra for you to do, as we already follow the new guidelines. If you’re due for your next dose, you can continue as usual without any additional steps. You also won’t be penalised for reaching a healthy BMI and wishing to maintain your progress on weight loss medication.
