Buy Epiduo Gel online

Epiduo is a topical treatment for mild to moderate acne containing the active ingredients adapalene and benzoyl peroxide. Adapalene is a type of product known as a retinoid, and benzoyl peroxide works as an antimicrobial agent. Epiduo comes as a gel that should be applied directly to the skin.

How Epiduo Gel treats acne

Epiduo contains two active ingredients: adapalene and benzoyl peroxide. Adapalene is a retinoid that increases cell turnover, meaning your pores will no longer be blocked with dead skin cells. Benzoyl peroxide is an antimicrobial agent that can kill bacteria and soften your skin’s outer layer. Providing your acne is mild to moderate, these two ingredients can work together to make a real difference to your acne-prone skin.

Directions

Epiduo is only suitable for use in adults and children aged 9 years and over. When prescribed this medicine, you should follow your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist’s advice on how to use it.

Usually, you’ll be advised to apply a thin layer of the gel evenly over the affected area, once a day at bedtime. Make sure the affected area of skin is clean and dry before applying Epiduo, and thoroughly wash your hands afterwards.

Avoid contact with your eyes, mouth, nostrils or other very sensitive areas of your body. If Epiduo comes into contact with any of these areas, you will need to rinse them immediately with lots of warm water.

Are there any side effects?

As with all medicines, there is a possibility that you may experience side effects when using this treatment, but not everybody gets them. If you experience any symptoms of an allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, difficulty breathing, or skin rash), you must seek medical attention immediately.

The common side effects of Epiduo are:

  • Dry skin
  • Contact dermatitis (local skin rash)
  • Burning sensation
  • Redness or irritation of the skin
  • Scaling

Uncommon side effects include itching of the skin or sunburn. It’s extremely important to use sun protection (minimum SPF 15) whilst using Epiduo, even if it’s cloudy outside.

For more information on possible side effects, refer to the patient information leaflet. If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Warnings

Epiduo is usually safe for most adults and children over the age of 9 years old. You should not, however, take Epiduo if you are allergic to any of the active substances or other ingredients in this medicine.

Make sure you don’t apply Epiduo to an area where you may be suffering from eczema, or if you have any cuts, scrapes, broken skin, or sunburn. You should also avoid any products that exfoliate or dry out the skin whilst you’re using this medicine.

Speak to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before using Epiduo if you’re taking any other medications or herbal remedies, including those obtained without a prescription.

Is Epiduo suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women?

If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or you’re trying to become pregnant, you should not use Epiduo under any circumstances. If during treatment you think you may have fallen pregnant, you will need to immediately stop using Epiduo and speak to your doctor. Epiduo can be used during breastfeeding, but it shouldn’t be applied to the chest in order to avoid exposure of the medicine to your baby.

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes acne?

Acne can be caused by a variety of reasons, but the most common cause is a change in hormone levels.

This is why acne is most common in teenagers, during pregnancy, and at different times during your menstrual cycle.

Hormonal changes can cause the glands next to hair follicles to produce more oil (sebum) than normal, which can change the activity of a normally harmless bacterium to become aggressive and cause inflammation and pus.

Acne can cause different types of spots to develop on the face, back and chest including:

  • Blackheads: bumps that are small and black or yellowish in colour
  • Whiteheads: similar to blackheads, but may be firmer and won’t be empty when squeezed
  • Papules: small red bumps that may feel tender or sore
  • Pustules: similar to papules, but with a white tip in the centre that is caused by a build-up of pus
  • Nodules: large hard lumps that can be painful
  • Cysts: large pus-filled lumps that look similar to boils and carry the greatest risk of causing permanent scarring
