What is Creon 10000

Creon 1000 capsules are a pancreatic enzyme supplement for those whose bodies do not make a sufficient amount of enzymes to digest food. They contain the active ingredient, pancreatin, which is a mixture of natural enzymes that our body uses to digest food. The capsules can either be swallowed whole or you can open the capsule and empty the contents with an acidic drink, such as orange juice or in soft food, such as yoghurt, so they are suitable for those who may have difficulty swallowing traditional tablets and capsules. If you need an increase of enzymes to aid digestion, speak to a Chemist4U pharmacist today, to see if Creon 10000 capsules are suitable for you.

What is Pancreatin?

Our pancreas creates a combination of enzymes in order to digest foods such as starch and sugars. However, those who have conditions such as cystic fibrosis, pancreatic issues or those who have had their pancreas removed have an insufficient amount of these enzymes, which can result in food not being digested properly. Pancreatin is made from the pancreases of pigs and replaces the enzymes which are normally produced by the pancreas to help the body to digest fats, starch and protein.

How do Creon Capsules work?

Creon capsules contain the active ingredient Pancreatin which is created from pig pancreas glands. It works by digesting food as it passes through the gut. The capsules are easy to administer as they can either be swallowed whole or opened in order to pour the contents into an acidic drink such as fruit juice or mixed into yoghurt before being consumed. Creon 10000 must be taken with a meal or a snack to allow the enzymes to thoroughly mix with food during administration.

How to take this product

Always take this product exactly as described by your doctor or dietitian. Always follow your doctors advice on how many capsules to take. If your doctor advises you to increase the number of capsules you take, this should be achieved slowly. If you still have fatty stools or abdominal pain, seek advice from your doctor or dietician. Always take Creon 10000 during or immediately after eating a meal or a snack and drink plenty of water.

Administration

Swallow the capsules whole or open them and mix the granules (without crushing) with acidic liquid (e.g apple, orange or pineapple juice) or soft food (e.g. apple sauce or yoghurt) before swallowing the mixture immediately and without chewing. You should take your medicine until your doctor tells you to stop. Many patients may need to take pancreatic enzyme supplements for the rest of their lives.

Warnings

  • Drink plenty of fluids every day
  • Mixing with non-acidic food or liquid, cruising or chewing of the pellets may cause irritation in your mouth or change the way Creon works in your body.
  • Do NOT hold Creon capsules or its contents in your mouth
  • Do NOT store the mixture
  • If you take too much Creon 10000, you should drink plenty of water and seek advice from your doctor immediately
  • If you forget to take your medicine, wait until your next meal and take your usual number of capsules - do NOT try to make up for the number of capsules you have missed, just take your next dose at the usual time

When NOT to take this product

Do NOT take this product if you are allergic to pork, any pig product or to any of the other ingredients (see ingredients tab for full list). Take care with this product if you have a rare bowel condition called ‘fibrosing colonopathy, which causes your gut to narrow. It has been reported in patients with Cystic Fibrosis taking high dose pancreatin products. If you have cystic fibrosis and take in excess of 10,000 lipase units per kilogram per day and have unusual abdominal symptoms or changes in abdominal symptoms, seek advice from your doctor. Seek advice from your doctor if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. Always read the patient information leaflet before using a new medicine to ensure that it is suitable for you.
