How will this product help to ease my pain?
Effervescent Co-Codamol tablets contain the active ingredients codeine and paracetamol. These ingredients are both painkillers which work together to ease moderate pain that cannot be relieved by using painkillers like paracetamol on their own. Paracetamol also helps to reduce high temperature or fever, making co-codamol an ideal remedy for symptoms of cold and flu.
How to take Effervescent Co-Codamol
For adults taking this product, dissolve 2 Effervescent Co-Codamol tablets in a glass of water and drink right away. Repeat this dose every 4 hours, as needed to relieve your pain. Do not use more than 8 tablets in any 24-hour period. When should Effervescent Co-Codamol not be used?
Effervescent Co-Codamol are not suitable for use by children under the age of 12, as they could be at risk of severe breathing problems. Do not take this product if you are allergic to paracetamol, codeine, or any of the other listed ingredients. This product can make you feel sleepy or dizzy, do not attempt to drive or operate tools or machinery until you know that this product does not affect you in this way. Do not take Effervescent Co-Codamol if you:
- Are under the age of 18 and have had your tonsils or adenoids removed due to obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome
- You know that you metabolise codeine into morphine very rapidly
- You are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed
Speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before taking this product if you:
- Have severe kidney or liver problems
- Have non-cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease

Does this product have any side effects?
Like all medicines, Effervescent Co-Codamol can have side effects, although not everyone will get them. These side effects include:
- Swelling in hands, feet, ankles, face, lips, or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing. You may also notice hives or nettle rash. This would indicate an allergic reaction to co-codamol.
- Serious skin reactions
- Severe stomach pain which may reach through to your back. This could be a sign of inflammation of the pancreas
- Constipation
- Nausea, vomiting
- Dizziness, light-headedness, drowsiness, confusion
- Difficulty passing water
- Becoming dependent on codeine
- More infections or bruising more than usual
