What is Carbomer Eye Gel?

Carbomer Eye Gel is a gel eye drop which can help to soothe dry eyes. Just one drop in each eye is enough to provide hydration to dry, tired eyes, helping you to feel more comfortable right away. These eye drops are perfect for adults who are looking for a quick and easy way to relieve dry eyes, which can be used anytime, anywhere.

Why do I have dry eyes?

Dry eyes aren’t unusual and the condition usually isn’t serious. There are many reasons why you may experience dry eyes, and you can usually treat this condition yourself or with over the counter remedies from your pharmacist. Some of the most common causes of dry eyes include:

  • Wearing contact lenses
  • Spending a lot of time looking at computer screens without a break
  • You are older than 50
  • Your environment, especially windy, cold, dry or dusty environments
  • Spending time in air-conditioned or heated environments
  • Smoking
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Some medications, e.g. antidepressants, blood pressure medication
  • Some medical conditions, e.g. lupus, Sjogren’s syndrome, blepharitis

How will this product help to soothe my dry eyes?

Carbomer is part of a group of eye drops known as ‘artificial tears.’ This means that they soothe your eyes by imitating the make up of your natural tears, hydrating your eyes and easing dryness as your natural tears would.

Can I use this eye gel if I wear contact lenses?

You can use this eye gel if you wear contact lenses, but you will need to remove your contacts before using the gel. Once you’ve used this product, wait for 15 minutes before putting your contact lenses back in. This product contains cetrimide, which is known to discolour soft contact lenses, so keep this in mind before using this product.

Can I use this gel if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product. Some medications may not be suitable for you or your baby at this time and a medical professional may wish to recommend a product that is more suitable for you.

Can I use this product if I’m taking other medication?

If you are taking any other medication, you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product. They will help you to be certain that your medications won’t interact in a negative way. If a medical professional tells you that you can use this product with your regular medication and you are using other eye drops or eye ointment, you should wait for at least 5 minutes between using each medicine. You should always use your Carbomer Eye Gel after any other medications or products.

Can I drive after using this product?

Some people may experience blurred vision after using this product. Do not attempt to drive or operate any tools or machinery unless you are absolutely sure that you are not affected in this way.

How to use this eye gel

Before using this product, wash your hands. Hold the tube of eye gel vertically, with the tip of the applicator facing down. Tilt your head backwards, rest one hand on your cheek and gently pull down your lower eyelid. Look upwards and squeeze the tube gently to insert one drop of gel into the eye. Blink a few times to distribute the gel over the eye and then wipe any excess gel away from your eyelids. Repeat in other eye if needed.

When should Carbomer Eye Gel not be used?

Carbomer Eye Gel is not suitable for use by children under the age of 18. Do not use this product if you are allergic to carbomer or any of the other listed ingredients. This product should be used in the eyes only. If you experience any eye pain, vision changes, eye irritation, persistent redness, or your condition becomes worse, stop use and speak to your doctor. If you have any eye issues other than dry eyes, speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product.

Does this product have any side effects?

Like all medications, Carbomer Eye Gel can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. These include:

  • Blurred vision
