What is Vicks First Defence Nasal Spray?

Vicks First Defence Nasal Spray helps to stop a cold before symptoms develop. Most cold & flu medicines help to relieve symptoms caused by the virus, but doesn’t deal with the source of the problem – the virus. Vicks First Defence helps to neutralise the virus to prevent it from developing and causing symptoms.

What causes cold & flu?

The viruses that cause Cold & Flu stick to the back of the nose, where the conditions are ideal for it to multiply. After a few hours, they start to cause the early symptoms of a cold, such as a scratchy throat, tickly nose, sneezing and a headache. Within 36 hours, the virus has multiplied millions of times and begins to cause more severe symptoms such as a runny or blocked nose, sore throat, fever and a cough. The cold symptoms usually last for around a week, but can sometimes last for a little longer.

How can Vicks First Defence help to treat and prevent a cold?

Vicks First Defence is applied directly in the nose, where the viruses develop. Its microgel traps and neutralises the viruses responsible for cold and flu, which helps to prevent them from developing and spreading. It naturally helps your body to remove the neutralised viruses by blowing your nose or swallowing. Vicks First Defence has been shown to help stop a cold within the first 36 hours after application and can prevent it from developing into a full-blown cold.

How to use Vicks Nasal Spray

Start to use Vicks Nasal Spray to treat your cold within the first 36 hours of it starting. This can be an identified by symptoms such as a scratchy throat, irritation or tickles in the nose or sneezing. You can even use it when you think you’re at risk of catching a cold.

Directions

  • Incline the nozzle and apply 2 – 3 sprays per nostril without inhaling
  • Wipe nozzle clean after use and replace the protective cap
  • Repeat up to 4 times per day and, for best results, continue to use for 2 days after the symptoms subside

Before first usage, remove the protective cap from the nozzle, hold the bottle upright and prime the pump into a tissue by depressing it firmly several times.

I like 1st Defence, have used it for years against my husband’s colds imported all winter from work. It may be that my immune system just works to combat colds, or First Defence does its job. How can I know for sure? It does make me sneeze, which is a very good response to an invading virus. So thought it was worth a try for the New Invader, Coronavirus. I use it before and after going out. No idea if it works, but worth a punt. Not coughing yet :)
