What is Balneum Bath Oil?
Balneum Bath Oil is a treatment that has been designed as a medicinal additive for a bath, suitable for those who are suffering from the effects of dry skin. This oil utilises soya oil which acts as an emollient. An emollient is basically a moisturiser that helps to relieve the effects of dry skin. When used, the oil forms a layer on the skin which prevents moisture from being lost in the skin. Aside from preventing the skin from drying out, this layer will also soften the skin.
Who is this bath oil suitable for?
This bath oil is suitable to be used by anyone, including children and infants, who are suffering from the effects of dry skin, or any condition caused by eczema/dermatitis. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the oil, or anyone who suffers from fresh pustular forms of psoriasis. If you have suffered from any of the following, then consult your doctor before using:
- Major skin injury
- Skin diseases
- Feverish or infectious diseases
- Heart failure
- High blood pressure
Do not use before speaking to a doctor if you have suffered from any skin condition recently.
Is this Balneum Bath Oil safe to use when pregnant or breastfeeding?
Yes, there are no known issues when using this bath oil when pregnant or breastfeeding. However, if you are unsure, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.
How should Baleneum Bath Oil be used?
To use this bath oil, make sure to pour the appropriate amount into the bath. The recommended amounts are as follows:
- Adults: For a full bath 1 capful (20ml)
- Children or babies: For a full bath about ¼ capful (5ml)
- A partial bath or sink should only need about 2.5ml of bath oil
For very dry skin, use up to three times the recommended amount. When having a bath using the oil, stay in the bath for 10 minutes. You can stay in longer but no longer than 20 minutes. For children and infants, only a few minutes is necessary. No soaps should be used when using this bath oil, as it will neutralise its effect.
Are there any side effects?
Like many medicines, there is a chance that using this bath oil could cause a side effect. During use, this bath oil could cause reddening or itchiness in the skin. There also could be an allergic reaction because of the soya oil. If you notice any side effect, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
