What is Algesal Cream?

Algesal Cream is a treatment for muscle or rheumatic pain which helps to relieve aches and pains wherever they may be. It uses the active ingredient diethylamine salicylate, which helps to relieve pain, leaving you feeling relieved and comfortable.

 

What causes muscle pain?

There are many reasons that you may be experiencing muscle pain, one of the most being medical conditions. This includes conditions like sciatica, lumbago, rheumatism, and fibrositis, which can all cause aches and pains in your muscles. Another reason why you may be experiencing muscle pain are injuries, such as bruises, sprains, or strains, which can all cause muscle pain as they heal.

 

How will this product relieve my muscular pain?

Algesal Cream contains the active ingredient diethylamine salicylate, which is a local analgesic. Analgesic medications are pain killers, and diethylamine salicylate works to relieve aches and pains in your muscles, soothing symptoms of conditions such as lumbago, fibrositis, and sciatica.

 

Can I use this product if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

You should not use this product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor has specifically told you to do so. If you want to use this product, speak to your doctor as they may be able to recommend a similar treatment that is safe to use during pregnancy.

 

Can I use this product if I’m taking other medication?

You should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product if you are taking any other medication, including those you obtained without a prescription. You should especially speak to your doctor if you are taking:

  • Anticoagulants, which to prevent blood clotting, such as warfarin. Algesal could increase the anti-clotting effects of this medication.
  • Methotrexate, which is used to treat severe rheumatoid arthritis or certain cancers. Using Algesal with this product could lead to toxic levels of methotrexate in the blood.

 

How to use Algesal Cream

Apply a small amount of Algesal Cream to the affected area and massage until the cream is fully absorbed. Apply this product three times a day for best results and wash hands after every application. Avoid getting Algesal Cream into your eyes or onto sensitive areas of skin. If your symptoms do not improve after 7 days of treatment, or get worse, speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.

 

When should Algesal Cream not be used?

Algesal Cream is not suitable for use on children under the age of 6 or children who have a history of convulsions or fits. Do not use this product on broken skin. Do not use Algesal Cream if you are allergic to aspirin or any of the other listed ingredients.

 

What happens if I accidentally use too much or swallow this cream?

If you accidentally apply Algesal to a large area of skin or use too much then you may begin to feel unwell, agitated, or confused. If this happens you should speak to a doctor right away. If you accidentally swallow this product, seek medical assistance immediately, taking this cream and its packaging with you to show to the doctor.

 

Does this product have side effects?

Like all medicines, Algesal Cream can have side effects, although these are usually mild and do not affect everyone. These side effects include:

  • Temporary skin reactions, e.g. redness, burning sensation, rashes
  • Discomfort when using this product in hot weather or after a hot bath
  • Discomfort if you have sensitive skin

How to store this product

Store in a cool, dry place which is below 25 degrees C. Store in original packaging and do not use if expiration date printed on the carton has passed. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
