What is Acidex Advance?
Acidex Advance is a treatment for heartburn and acid reflux which can be taken after meals and before bed to treat and prevent your symptoms. By covering your stomach lining it helps to keep acid reflux from happening and soothes that burning sensation in your chest. It’s perfect for those who experience indigestion, especially during pregnancy or when you’re withdrawing from PPI or H2 Antagonist medications. Acidex Advance is available in peppermint and aniseed flavours, so you can choose your favourite flavour while treating your heartburn.
What are heartburn and acid reflux?
Acid reflux is a type of indigestion and it happens when excess stomach acid moves up into your food pipe, causing irritation. Heartburn is a symptom of acid reflux, and is the name for that burning feeling in your chest that happens during acid reflux. When you have acid reflux you may experience some other unpleasant symptoms alongside your heartburn, including:
- Bad breath
- A sore throat
- Hiccoughs
- A cough
- An unpleasant taste in your mouth
How will Acidex Advance treat my heartburn?
Acidex Advance contains two active ingredients which work together as reflux suppressants to soothe your heartburn; sodium alginate and potassium hydrogen carbonate. These ingredients form a protective layer over the contents of your stomach, keeping them from moving up into your food pipe and from irritating your stomach lining. This helps to reduce discomfort and other symptoms and can help to prevent reflux after every meal and before bed.
Can I use this product during pregnancy?
Heartburn is really common during pregnancy, and you’ll be glad to hear that you can take Acidex Advance to ease your heartburn symptoms at this time. However, you should only do this if you’re told to do so by your doctor and should take as small a dose as possible.
Can I take this product with my other medication?
If you’re taking any other medication (including herbal remedies and medicines obtained without a prescription) you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product. This especially applies if you are already taking:
- Tetracycline or fluoroquinolone antibiotics
- Iron salts
- Thyroid hormones
- Chloroquine, which is used to prevent malaria
- Bisphosphonates, which are used to treat osteoporosis
- Estramustine, which is used to treat prostate cancer
How to take this medicine
Take 5 - 10ml (one or two 5ml teaspoons) of Acidex Advance after each meal and before bedtime. Shake the bottle well before use. If your symptoms haven’t improved after 7 days you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
When should this product not be used?
Acidex Advance should not be given to children under the age of 12 unless specifically told to do so by your doctor. Do not take this product if you are allergic to sodium alginate, potassium hydrogen carbonate, or any of the other listed ingredients. This product contains sodium (salt), potassium, and calcium, speak to your doctor before taking this product if you’re following a diet which restricts any of these ingredients (e.g. a low salt diet).
Does Acidex Advance have any side effects?
Like all medications, Acidex Advance can have side effects although not everyone will experience them. These side effects include symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, so if you experience any of the following side effects make sure to seek immediate medical assistance:
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Hives
- Swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, or throat
Other side effects you may experience include:
- Diarrhoea
- Feeling sick
- Being sick

How to store this product
Store in a cool, dry place which is below 25 degrees C. Do not freeze or refrigerate. Do not use this product if the expiry date printed on the original packaging has passed. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
